Moving to Cambridge from France

Hi!
We are a French family living in Savoie, the Alps and about to relocate to Cambridge. My husband will be working in St Neots, so we are looking for a convenient place to buy a flat (we already have a house in Savoie). I'd like to have a "city" life in the UK as we have two children, aged 10 and 12, who crave for independence (both of them attending bilingual school here). Of course, we need to be close to some good schools. Where should we start looking for a place to settle in? Any idea?

It would be useful to know your budget! Also are you looking for state or independant schools?? If you want to live in Cambridge itself and want a good primary that has a huge amount of bi-lingual children (my own experience) you would be looking at the Morley catchment which is South City and you'll not get much change from £300,000 for a decent place.

Thanks for your advice, I've found a very useful document from the Cambridge City about this catchment and will further investigate. Do you know if the secondary schools are also good?
At work, my husband has been told about a school called Perse, so we might have a look - we don't have anything similar in France and I have no idea if it is worth the cost.
Our budget for the flat would be around £ 350,000 but we want a small place so I hope that will be fine - we only look for a two-bedroom place?
Last question : do you know about Trumpington? Is it a horrible suburb or a nice place to live?

La Perse est un indépendant très bonne sélective - je l'espère notre fille sera entrer dans le collège l'an prochain. Il est assez cher quand même! Trumpington est très bien dans les lieux, minable dans certains! Désolé de ne pas très utile!

Alors je pense que vous pourriez aussi considérer Impington Village College. Si vous habitez un quartier dans le nord-ouest de la ville de Cambridge, votre mari sera mieux placé pour aller à St Neots et vos enfants pourront aller à une école où les élèves sont préparés pour le Baccalauréat International, ce qui pourrait vous convenir si jamais vous repartez en France ou ailleurs en Europe. En plus, c'est gratuit! Ce n'est pas vraiment très loin du centre-ville, malgré le mot 'village', et en plus c'est gratuit! Sinon, sachez qu'il existe aussi The Cambridge International School, qui est une école privée. Autrement, si vous voulez habiter en plein centre-ville, The Parkside Federation est une bonne école et il y a pas mal d'elèves internationaux.
