Hi, We are moving to Alconbury Weston near Huntingdon in August and I wondered if there's anyone who lives around there that can recomend any toddler groups or clubs (we have a 2 year old) or if anyone had any views on schools in the area? I'm a bit lost as I don't know anyone in the area at all!! Thanks in advance if anyone has a chance to recomend anything! XXXX

I think there is a play group in Alconbury but I've never been. The nearest Sure Start centres are in Sawtry just up the A1 and a couple in Huntingdon.

There's quite a lot on for toddlers and young children in Huntingdon at the leisure centre and at the Olympic gym and they have things on at Hinchingbrooke Country Park too.

Alconbury Primary is meant to be good, I'm not sure which other schools are nearest. I think Great Gidding got an outstanding at the last inspection but that might be a bit far to travel.

This page has some local info that might be helpful.

I'm not far from Alconbury, I have 3.9yo and 17 mo DDs so feel free to PM if you want to meet up with someone locally when you get here. :)

I'd be up for a meet-up too (I live a few miles north of Huntingdon, in the village with the crocodiles!). 2.5 year DS and 6 week DD Grin.

There's a Tiny Talk session on Fridays in Brampton if that's your thang. Nice garden centre for cake and coffee too. I second the Saturday morning kids session at the Olympic Gym. For indoor play there's Leo's Funzone in Huntingdon, though it can get v busy when the weather is wet. I tend to prefer unstructured (and free) outdoor stuff so we go to Hinchingbrooke country park a lot.

For baby and toddler groups, there are loads in the various villages. Ask at your child health clinic - they may have a list.

Good luck with the move!

Ooh, we were over your way the other day visiting the crocodiles. The new babies are very cute!

Fishandjam · 26/07/2012 22:07

We were there today :) If you see a frazzled looking almost 40 something with a large blond toddler and a small screaming baby in the cafe, it's probably me. (Jeez, the money I've spent in that place since it opened!)

EauRouge · 27/07/2012 08:48

We're there quite often too, maybe we've met already! Spent a fair amount of money in there too but the cake is absolutely worth it. Wink

Ooh, am liking the new improved shop at the crocodile farm, and they seem to have moved the ostriches, which is a relief, as they were rather too aggressive to have near children.

Sorry EllaHeather I don't really have much to add to the above advice. Huntingdon library's probably a good place to get info on groups, plus they do the usual rhymetime sessions there. Hope the move goes well.

eau, stranger, PM me when you next go and I'll buy you a coffee :)

EauRouge · 30/07/2012 16:58

We could all meet up once the OP has moved- what do you think, Ella? The farm shop sells nice ham Grin

HappyAsASandboy · 30/07/2012 17:44

Count me in for a crocodile meet up :)

Hi FishandJam, I think we live very close :) I can't hear your beautiful DD tho, even with my windows open :)

I've never found someone I know on Mumsnet before - do we have to name change now?!

StrangerintheNight · 01/08/2012 16:49

Sounds good. Hope all is well with the new baby Fishandjam
