Preston Street Primary-Any experience of?

Have posted recently about primary schools, we are renting in catchment for Gillespies but can't afford to buy here really. We are very fed up with renting and are looking to buy, we need to be settled somewhere by November so we can register DD for school. There is more coming up in Newington that we can afford. Does anyone have DC that go to Preston Street or experience of it? From what I can see it perhaps didn't have such a good inspection several years ago but is much improved? It sounds very inclusive and friendly? Any thoughts very welcome!

I do not have a child at Preston street but have only heard good things about it. I would be happy for DS to go there is we lived in the catchment. Personally I would prefer it over other local schools as it is smaller and has a good community feel.

Thanks, that is my feeling too. Just have to get the flat now!

I don't have DCs that go there, but I hear it is a very friendly school. As an example my friend had a DS in P1 there and parents were allowed (encouraged) to go in to the class every morning, and stay with their child for a few minutes to help them settle. I'd say the playground looks pretty basic.

The other thing to consider about Gillespie's is that it's an open plan school which some children find too noisy.

i did a teaching placement there years ago - lovely friendly school, decent results, good teachers, pretty mixed catchment, and small playground - but lots of other green space nearby.
