New to the Area - Post details / questions here.

I have just come on to mumsnet for the first time in years (how bad is that) and seen lots of posts from people who are moving to the area who have questions or who are looking to meet local mums. However, these posts mainly seem to go unanswered.

To try and ensure these posts get replied to and help given where possible, how about all those who are moving to the area, post on this thread. I will try and check back regularly and hopefully other mums will check back here as well to see if we can help.

And reliable nhs dentists?

Hi Mrspi, I moved to Hitchin about 3 months ago and have registered with Regal Chambers on Bancroft. Found the nurses to be lovely and have so far had no problem getting 'emergency' appointments same day - a miracle after my last GP surgery.
I've also been to the dentist - oh the glamour - and went to Old Park Dental Surgery - here's their site. The dentist I saw was super gentle and really nice, and they take NHS patients.

I have just moved to Hitchin with my husband and 7 month old baby. The area is totally new to me and I am keen to meet other mums, with similar aged children to socialise with, as im feeling a little bit lonely! Any suggestions of friendly baby groups would also be appreciated.

My youngest is now 3, so I'm not up to date with the baby classes too much. However, from speaking to friends with little ones, the classes which are popular are:
Hitchin swimming pool - baby classes (I think Mon & Fri mornings) - need to get there early as it is very popular! www.north-herts.gov.uk/index/leisure_and_culture/leisure_and_sports_facilities/hitchin_swimming_centre.htm
Music Train - www.musictrain.co.uk/Class-Herts-Hitchin-01.html - everyone I know with babies, goes to this.
Space2Play - they have lots of baby toys out and it's a popular place for mums to get together for a chat with lots of toys and coffee on hand.
Christchurch runs a large play group (you don't have to be Churchgoing to attend!) christchurchhitchin.org.uk/young/pre-school

Hi! We also know nobody as we moved here a couple of weeks ago from london. Probably have crossed paths wandering round the parks of hitchin! My boy is a bit older though, 14 months. Will defo look into some of those groups for sept!

Can anyone recommend a good preschool/nursery in Hitchin? We are relocating and have a 2 year old and a one month old. Also are there any areas/roads to avoid when searching for a house? Any recommendations of areas?

Hi HMTScott.
There are lots of good nurseries but you will probably find some you love and some you hate. The most popular nursery in Hitchin is Highbury Lodge but it has a massive waiting list. The nursery I use is Toadhall (have done for a few years now) which is expanding. Best thing is to view them all and you will find one that feels right for you. I guess it will also depend on where you move to...
