Good conveyencing solicitor

We're (hopefully) completing on our first house purchase next week. I did the usual of getting lots of quotes for a solicitor - very nearly going for the cheapest option but they turned us down based on our mortgage lender (First Direct).

Anyway, I am SOOO happy that we didn't and plumped for Barton's. A lady called Alex has been smashing from the start - she's a tough bird (!) but with housebuying being so stressful, I realise that this is what you need! She's pushed and pushed on our behalf and genuinely helped make this all happen.

This really isn't a spam ad. But knowing how shit solicitors can be, I wanted to let you know of a positive experience. And to say that sometimes I think it's worth paying a little more.

I don't think the price you pay has that much to do with the quality of the service. But if this isn't going to be spam let's all add our own recommendations and anti-recommendations (and see if any of them match up)

Our first house move we used Kirby Simcox and were rather unimpressed - they were very slow, taking ages to do simple things and never answering the phone or keeping us informed about what was happening unless you chased them on a daily basis. I genuinely thought that was the way all solicitors would be until second time around and we used Barcan Woodward who were much cheaper but absolutely brilliant - very speedy whenever possible, spotted potential problems early, sorted everything out and made sure every i was dotted and every t crossed without taking ages to do so, and always kept us fully informed about what was happening, how long it would take and why it needed to be done and needed to take that amount of time.

At Bartons we are delighted to receive the positive feedback from LittleMilla (thanks LittleMilla!). It is always nice to learn that during such a stressful time that there are ways of ensuring that the experience can be made easier. Allegedly moving house is one of the three most stressful times of your life, although as fellow mums, you will no doubt agree that having a new baby should be included in this list :)
