Good GP Practice in Dalston / E8

Hello,

I have just moved to Dalston and looking to find a good GP near home - am 36 weeks pregnant with first baby and want to make sure I get it right, all the NHS listings have truly awful reviews... I wouldn't mind travelling a bit to get a good GP, have been suffering with an awful one in Shoreditch for the past 5 years and with this new baby on the way I want to make sure we have good care.

Any help much appreciated - am new to Mumsnet, tried posting this on Facebook and no helpful comments have come back!

Thanks so much in advance
Philippa

You're probably a bit out of their areas, but just in case ... the Well Street Surgery is great and so is the Lower Clapton Surgery (maybe this one is near enough to Dalston?) Both are teaching practices (so you sometimes are asked if you mind having a student doctor sit in). I wonder if that has anything to do with the quality? Is there a teaching group practice nearer you I wonder?

They're the two doctors I had while living in Hackney anyway, and both were great.

Which bit of Dalston are you in?

Are you registered with the Homerton for the birth? They're great :)

I go to Somerford Grove which am happy with. There are a number of doctors there and most of the ones I have seen are very good. Would particularly recommend Dr Ritchie (sp) as she specialises in ante natal care.

Queensbridge Group Practice in Holly Street seems to be fine. And sign up with Homerton Hospital.

If you are stuck near where we are, you may have a less than appealing choice between the Dalston Practice and the Sandrigham Practice, which both get poor reviews. While I have found the organization and competence of the Dalston receptionists to be fairly dire, I have been pleased so far with Dr. Martin Bourne at the Dalston Practice. So, while I can't trust them to keep track of a referral letter, take a message, or call me back, I would trust his clinical judgement.
