naive (?) wait list question

sorry this one might seem dumb but I can't find an answer online.

we accepted our 3rd choice primary reception place in Richmond and remained on the list for 1st and 2nd. if we are offered our 2nd choice in the summer, can we accept that one and still remain on the list for 1st choice? will the council make an offer for 1st choice under these conditions?

Yes you can stay on the waiting list for your higher preference choices for as long as you like into year 1 etc

Yes you can, in fact you could add your name to some other school waiting list at any time too - say if you were thinking of moving, or had issues with school you're in etc.
