Hi there, we are looking to move to Clanfield and I was hoping someone would be able to give me an insight to living there. We have 2 little girls who will be going to school in Abingdon.

Many thanks!

Oh dear.... No one lives in Clanfield! It's going to be a lonely life....:-(

We looked at a house there, a few years ago when we moved. In the end we didn't end up in Clanfield - we're now about 5 miles away (you can guess by my username where!). We do however have friends of friends who live there and I know they really like it.

It is very small and I seem to remember that when we were researching the area, the highlight news for clanfield at that time was the fact that a man forced to run into a ditch by local cows who didn't like him in their field Grin. Its a really happening place!

But no, I say that in jest. It is in fact a lovely place, regarded to be slightly posh by some, and the local pubs are said to be very good. I also seem to remember the lady who ended up in Clanfield that there was a monthly (perhaps?) ladies night, when all the men looked after the children and all the mums went down the pub for a drink. I was also told that there's a lot of socialising built around the mums at the school and preschool. That said, I've heard its a welcoming place, but as with all things - you need to throw yourself in. I know the people who we talked to about Clanfield loved living there, their only concerns was the new school catchment (secondary) as they preferred the secondary school catchment that I live in, compared to the catchment that they are in... but if your girls are going to school in Abingdon, I guess this won't concern you...

Good luck with the move. Its a lovely part of the country and I really like it here.

Ah thank you so much for that info, really reassuring and kind of you to take the time to let me know. One of the things I'm really worried about is the school drive to Abingdon as I'm not sure about the morning traffic! I like the look of the pubs ;-) Maybe one day we will meet!

Hi NK25 I live in Abingdon, luckily on the north side so manage to avoid most of the traffic problems. As you are travelling a long way I assume you are heading for one of the independent schools? You will need to avoid the town centre and possibley the Marcham interchange, your best route will depend on which school you are heading for. If you are heading to The Manor then look to approach from Shippon (though I think the right turn onto the Faringdon Road can queue a bit). Hope that helps, good luck with the move.
