Hi.
Can you give me your opinions on Eastbourne please? We are thinking of moving there, probably Willingdon Village. Does anyone know which school our children are likely to be offered places? From september they will be in reception and year two. The old people don't bother me, but I have heard it is 'chavvy' for want of a better word. Is this true?

Thanks for any help.

No, it's not chavvy however in this day and age I don't believe any place escapes "the chavs". I understand the local school is very highly rated which I believe is Willingdon or Motcombe or Pashley are both close and seem good schools see www.eastbourne.gov.uk/education/schools/primary-schools-map/

Willingdon village and Ratton are both pretty quiet areas with not much in local amenities apart from a pub & Thai restaurant. You are close to the Downs for walks and outdoor life.

I moved to EB over 10 years ago and have not regretted the move, it's a great place for children to grow up by the sea with fresh air and lots going on. Yes there are lots of old people but there are also lots of young families here too and demographic is changing.

I grew up in Eastbourne and had to move away for DH's job ten and a half years ago. Although I'm fairly happy where I am now, if it wasn't for my dds being settled at schools here in West Sussex, I would move back in a heartbeat.

It's a lovely town with lots going on and although it's known for having a large population of old people, as Lucyhanco says it's also full of young families. If you do decide to move some parts of Hampden Park and Langney might be described as 'chavvy' but areas do change. Bishop Bell secondary school near Langney used to be known as a 'bad' school but I've found out very recently that it is now one of the best.

I used to live fairly close to Willingdon Village and around the Willingdon area. Willingdon School is probably your nearest primary school but there is also Motcombe Infants which tends to feed into Ocklynge Junior School. I actually went to Parkland Infants and Junior School which is in between Willingdon and Hampden Park and then on to Ratton Secondary School.

Hope this helps.

I lived in EB from the age of 16, moved there after I left school and my mum still lives there, I live a little bit further along towards Brighton now but love Eastbourne. Dunno much about schools but my friend there had her girls in pashley and it is the best infant school, think she had to wait 6 months to get one of her DD's in because of the waiting list so had 6 months of getting her year 1 dd to one school whilst the reception dd was at another!!!
