borrow a bird cage?

We've rescued an abandoned nest of six coal tit chicks...here's hoping they survive the night!

They have flight feathers, and look like they might be ready to feed themselves in about a week or so...

...don't suppose anyone's got a bird cage or aviary we could borrow until they are ready for release?

Had a look on gumtree and freegle and managed to borrow a hamster cage - which will do initially.

if we are going to keep them wild I need something they can hop about it and learn to fly but still have some supplemented feeding from us - and, because I'm essentially lazy and tight rushed off my feet I hoped to borrow one for three weeks or so.

But, I'll have a bash at stapling some chicken wire onto a wooden frame - I think I can get an old cold frame, that would do the trick.

They are doing well, apart from one who died last night. But, the remaining five are feeding well and starting to climb up in the nest.

Am hoping it doesn't go all Agatha Christie, and then there were four, and then thre were three...

gosh, I wouldn't have had a clue what to do!! Hope they are still improving.

Well, they all survived last night - but two are needing encouragement to feed. Yesterday they were all quite active, but two today are not.

And, I realised that the odd "growth" on their beaks was actually the food mix that had been liberally applied by our four year old. So, they are caked in the stuff - am trying to loosen that off witha paintbrush and some water.

I did rather enjoy the school run - being able to call out "want to see my tits?" in the playground was a pleasing experience!
