Hello another post about schools.... Hoping to move shortly to Brighton from London. I am really having a nightmare finding a accommodation close to a school of my choice. The schools are oversubscribe. My children are sent to Fairlight school. I've read no very good comments, but I suppose there are a good ones. The thing is I am refusing places to live because the school, but I suppose is not that bad, is it? Honestly it seems I do not get anywhere!!! Please, please, please advice on this one. I think there was a thread about this school but it looks that it's no any more. Thanks a lot for your advice.

Hi, people seem to have mixed opinions about fairlight. It used to have a bad reputation, and didn't have very good results. However, it has been improving, they had a good ofsted report I think. They have a new head teacher, and more people are putting it first on their school applications. I have friends with children there and they are very happy with the level of teaching. I think the main down side is that you can get some 'difficult' children there. If you move here, and are near fairlight I presume you will also by near to elm grove, st.luke's, carlton hill and queens park? Theses are all very good schools, you could go on the waiting list, if you are unhappy with fairlight. I'm sure a place would eventually open up.

I know quite a few children who go there, they all love it - as do their parents. The new head is very good, and all the children I know have got level 5 sats at ks2 and 3s at ks1.

It was quite transient for a while with kids coming from hove because of the lack of school places, and then leaving when places became available. This seems to have stopped due to more school places being available in Hove.

I wouldn't hesitate to send my children there.

Thank you so much for your messages. They give me peace of mind, as it looks that wherever we go the children will be sent there. As you mention ofsted is good, but achievement if I remember well it was below 50%. It seems I will no be far from elm grove so we might eventually get a place. I would love the children to go to st lukes but we may be too far. Let's see how my place hunt goes.... again many thanks you really help

Fairlight was definitely one to be avoided, but the new head has turned it round. I have various friends whose dc go there, and they are happy. You can go on the waiting list for Elm Grove and St Luke, in any case.
