Can anyone recommend a good builder?

We're planning a bit of work to our house and need a good builder. We're not doing anything very high-spec but had work done before and it was fine structurally but the finishing was a bit poor so we don't want to get caught out on that again.

I'd be very interested in any recommendations too please - I'm desperate to get our 2 bathrooms sorted out, but so far, apparently down to there being too much work to choose from & parking here not being great its been a nightmare finding any that will do the job

Well, so far they seem amazing - hope I'm not speaking too soon - friendly, tidy, reliable and flexible (response to difficulties with Building Control - you've got two options, this is what each would mean and this is what they would cost). They are a week in - due to finish in 10 days so will update again then. They are called Bishops Group - www.bishops-builders.com/ - guy to speak to is Jason.

I have a builder recommended to me by someone who had a kitchen extension by them. The bulder has just started up on his own and he is coming to quote for my loft extension this week. I will update if any when the work is done but he did do a lovely job of my friends kitchen.

cantspel - can you share the details of the builder who did your friend's kitchen extension plse? Did he give you a good quote for your loft?

I'm still needing one - fed up of been held up with other work we can do ourselves, by needing our bathrooms doing :( - I thought where I lived in London was bad for finding & getting good builders to turn up - how wrong I was

Dru6 very good quote and we are going ahead with the project. Just need to get the building regs sorted and hopefully we can start.

rockinhippy i have a plumber/tiler starting on our upstairs bathroom on tuesday. Seems very so far he has turned up to quote on time, phoned through the quote at the time he said he would and keen to start quickly.
I have only seen photos of his work so wont recommend him until he has finished our but if he is as good as he sounds i am happy to pass on his number.

Sam Goolbar has done work for us and is excellent. He's based in Croydon but recently did a patio and driveway for a friend in Hove on my recommendation, so I know he'll travel down there. He's done joinery work for us, general handyman stuff and fitted beautiful kitchens for friends. 07861 762574. He's very reliable and unusually tidy.
