School runs to Esher

Hi there,

We will be moving down to the Esher area this summer, and have finally sorted out a school for our middle son. Now we need to find a house. I had initially planned on taking on a fairly substantial school run, as we need a four/five bedder with space for a live-in nanny and can't make Esher prices (LOL).

However, when we visited the school the other day, we were stunned by the gridlocked traffic into and out of Esher...at eleven o'clock in the morning!! I'm wondering now just what kind of distance would be practical/achievable. Hersham and West Molesey look realistic to me...but are the roads do-able?

;)

I don't think it is too bad. Was it on a Saturday you got traffic?

No, the traffic was on a Wednesday, & it was bumper-to-bumper. Really liking the look of West Molesey, but the school run to Esher needs to be achievable without gridlock. Surrey traffic is terrible!

It isn 't usually that bad. maybe there was an accident. I think you need to try it at 8.15am a few times.

Which school did you choose?

Hi. I am also house hunting in Esher at the moment. I have been told by agents that the reason the traffic is bad at present is that a road running behind the race course is closed at the moment for works to the bridge and so all the traffic is being sent down the high street instead.

It isn't that bad usually and Suzi is right about the roadworks, also it may have been race day at Sandown ?

I drive through Esher a lot, all times of the day. Generally it's not too bad, but if there is something on at Sandown (they do lots of shows as well as race days), then it can get very busy. Suzi and sleepydog are right about roadworks... temporary traffic lights under the bridge causing queues but they might be finished with that now. Good luck.
