Can anybody recommend any local removal companies?

Pretlove's did a great job for us www.pretloves.com

Cambridge Household Removals were the cheapest of the 3 quotes I got, and they got the job done, albeit with a huge amount of faff and attitude on the side.
You get what you pay for, so I thought, until a friend used one of the big national companies and was left without furniture for a weekend as the jobsworth employees wouldn't unload the van after 5 on a Friday.

It's almost 10 years since we moved but these guys were brilliant and had come to us highly recommended by friends. For our friends they'd worked extra late in the day (so they weren't left without furniture!) and we just found them nice people who worked very hard and got it all done with minimum fuss. Their 'day before' packing service also ranks as some of the best money I've ever spent!

Acekicker I wholeheartedly agree with you about packing services! Reduced stress quotient massively.

We were very happy with Proctors Removals. They came highly recommended, coped with our changing completion date, and I liked that one of the removal men dismantled and re-built our bed frames for us without us asking, he just did it. You can pay a waiver of about £20 I think, that covers you in case completion is delayed, so that you don't have to pay the excess charge if you end up in Little Stranger's friend's situation.

We didn't use the packing service, but I hear it is very good. We did get all our boxes from them ages in advance though, and they came to take them away again when we'd finally unpacked (though didn't count them, so we were able to keep a lot for the loft).

We used Proctors they were lovely, did packing for us and it was brilliant also to find the little box they left of a weeks essentials, Loo rolls microwave rice and pasta etc (that was 10 years ago so not sure if they still do that)

the packing was the best money we spent.
