Reception places in Hampton

Hi, trying to organise a band of people who have been unplaced at reception for 2012 in Hampton. So far we beleive there are 12 children with no place currently - more than last year. If you are on Facebook please look at 'children without choice'

On a broader point - what does the rest of Richmond borough look like for infant school places this year?

Hi, my DS didn't get any place offered. Gutted. Triyed the facebook page but can,t get on. Will keep trying.

Do keep trying - I think so far there are about 15 of you which surely the lea have to look at!!!

Hi, my daughter is unplaced at the moment. We're still in shock as we're 453m from Hampton Infants! It's so stressful but we're going to appeal. Out of interest, does anyone know the ages of those unplaced? My daughter has an August birthday so we're concerned that we've been put to the bottom of the pile because legally the LA doesn't have to give her a school place until the term after her 5th birthday.
Any tips re appealing?

I don't think they can put you down the priority list on age grounds if you ask for a place.

Hi, I am too wondering about appealing as our son did not get any place offered. 520m from HIS. Can anyone advise, pls.

Dentvincent · 22/04/2012 22:00

We appealed last year - to no avail I might add! But frankly it felt like the only way we could present our case. But basically unless you can prove the LEA has done something outside of the school admissions code, or measured you wrongly it is virtually impossible to win an infant class size appeal. I'm sure the info given was no one had won in Richmond borough the last 2 years.
However a space will become available - it just may not be where you want. And you can't appeal on that - unless you can show a special circumstance - in which case u would probably just jump to the top of the list

Good news for 30 happy parents - HIS has had a bulge class added - not sure how they will squeeze it in but the problem had to be addressed. So hopfully those above now have a place.
BUT it seems like there are still 13 children unplaced in Hampton!! HIS has only offered places to children living under 800m and there are a fair few that are still in Hampton but beyond this mark. So the LEA have basically totally under-resourced our part of Richmond despite being warned last year that the problem was only going to get worse

We are in the same boat in Teddington, just reading through some of your posts and wanted to share a bit of info.

After speaking with the council they have confirmed there are a total of 167 children who received 'no offer' in the Richmond Borough. Just to interject about why LBRuT send out letters as 'no offer' - apparently they do this because they cannot place the children at any school within a 5 mile radius and to place outside would be detrimental to the child so they deem 'no offer' and waiting lists preferable to sending children miles away - which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Sacred Heart is also offering bulge class this year, but Stanley having 4 classes already and Hampton Wick Infants permanant expansion this year to 3 classes does not leave much room for a bulge class at a community school in Teddington, see other local post - we have been discussing the position Collis might be in for offering this.

LBRuT have explained that they will be keeping a close eye on the situation for all affected families and that they have experts who should be able to predict which way the classes are heading (in regards to movements within the borough freeing up places) and further bulge classes will be under consideration.

Good luck everyone! Fingers crossed for all concerned - you definitely are not alone :(
