Got place but not first choice in teddington

DollyDiamond · 18/04/2012 20:53

Oh Pearce, that's terrible. You must be really upset? My dd got a place, but not our first choice and has completely thrown all my plans wrt wrap-around care out the window.

Good luck, x

skinmysunshine · 18/04/2012 21:04

That happened to me in Wandsworth a couple of years ago. It's a horrible situation to be in - I sympathise

pearce · 18/04/2012 21:07

It's so crazy as I live very close to our first choice and kids on our road go to that school already!! Very sad!! :((

i remember from the last few years at this stage there were a lot of kids without a place, but there's a lot of movement between now and the end of term. fingers crossed for you, horrible stressful position to be in.

londoniana · 19/04/2012 13:19

it appears that across London 1500 children are with no places currently. I find that outrageously high :(.

on the other hand a happy 78% got their first choice.

hi
i have the cut off distance for you
Collis 658m 54 siblings last year 705 INTAKE 90
Hampton Wick 1157m last year 1011m that with extra 30 kids intake 90 20 siblings
Stanley 1809m 46 siblings last year 2094m intake 120

NIGHTMARE

Gigondas · 19/04/2012 13:30

What are cuts offs for twick schools like archdeacon and trafalgar ? Mixed success with people I know (we chickened out and took the expensive private route but I think with way things are that isn't as feasible for many as it was )

playgroup · 19/04/2012 13:33

sorry total muppet posted on wrong thread
Trafalgar is 2629m
just have community distance not church ones

Gigondas · 19/04/2012 13:34

Thats not so bad for trafalgar - Shock at how tight some of others are

Pixipie · 19/04/2012 14:38

Playgroup - are these this year's cut-offs? Where can I find these? Thanks! x

playgroup · 19/04/2012 18:02

I have these as they were with my school offer letter let me know which u want and will put on line

playgroup · 19/04/2012 18:02

Yes sorry this years cut off

Pixipie · 19/04/2012 19:53

Have just got home and seen the letter - wow, there are a whole lot of siblings in Richmond this year!! Guess I am happy with getting 4th choice now I see the ridiculously close distances you have to live to get in to some schools.

DollyDiamond · 20/04/2012 11:05

I think it was a good idea for the council to include the distances/siblings info - it does make you realise just how crazy it is getting places and takes the sting away from not getting your first choice?

But, does anyone else think the distances for The Vineyard are really weird?? I looked at the last few years and there has consistently been 20-30 siblings, but living

Pixipie · 20/04/2012 11:17

Last year the Vineyard took 90 which is why the distance was a lot further. Also, a few years ago The Vineyard was rated Good by Ofsted, they only got their Outstanding rating a couple of years ago I believe, hence Marshgate used to be equally popular in that part of Richmond. However now it seems like The Vineyard has got an almost mythical reputation of being the most outstanding school in the area, hence it's a fact that people are renting close to the school just to get kids in.

Jenny70 · 20/04/2012 22:11

They actually took 99 last year in reception at The Vineyard to help with a large number of reception children with no place.

Perhaps some of these 99 have close siblings creating an extra sibling pressure? (you would say normally 2 year gap is norm, but if birthdays fall close or children are 18 months apart they can be one school year between them)

Also the 569m is interesting, my neighbour didn't get in and I would swear we live closer than that.... we do according to google maps, but they aren't as accurate as the LEA, one would hope.

nata1982 · 26/04/2012 19:26

Hi did anyone get into a school in East Sheen and if so how far do you live from the school you got allocated, my little one will start school in 2014 but am already panicking about the small catchment areas for schools in Sheen.
