Moving to Cambridge from Scotland, got to fill in the form to get DS1 into a new primary. Is there anything I should write in the section where it asks you to 'briefly explain your preferences for school that will help my case apart from that they're catchment/closest schools?

Is there anything his current school should write on the wopping great blank page at the back 'any other comments you think we may find helpful? Like 'DS1 is a fabulous kid you have to put him in his first preference school . . .' :o

Any help or moral support very welcome

you might want to post in primary education section - as the admissions experts on there are brilliant - but I would imagine it would be something like special needs,
is the school the nearest school to you and does it currently have places - you can ask about places by ring the admisions people at cambridgeshire - and how old is your DS - as its much strictor in number of places in the younger age group in England. Cambridge schools are in general very full. I assume you have proof of address if you are applying now.
Hope this helps

'I've met this brilliantly friendly and everso helpful lady on MN whose daughter is at the school (if indeed this is the school Grin ) and I am desperate to meet her' ?

We've just sent off our in-year application for secondary in Cambridge. We haven't put the catchment school as number one choice so in that box we just explained why - but it's more complicated as it goes into GCSE reasons. I'm not sure if we'll get in - we should hear from them in a couple of weeks.

On the big page at the back, our current school Vice Principal just wrote a couple of lines about our children - I don't think he needed to - it seems that the schools don't have much choice unless they're full, or have some other good reason for not accepting you (I think it's more to do with the council than the school's decision) but he wrote something anyway.
