schools and moving house

we are thinking of buying a house in stevenage and wondered if anyone could advise on good primary schools both state and independent as well as lovely areas for young families. we know nothing about the area but it looks/seems affordable and just dont know where to satrt.

If you can afford hitchin or welwyn garden city they are much better. Knebworth is beautiful.
Stevenage is very large and there aren't many nice areas.
Old town and symmons green are nicest.
