Anyone able to recommend a company to look at adding a basement conversion?

Property is also listed so is probably going to be a nightmare to find someone but if you have a builder/architect or firm to recommend I would be very interested.

We want to do a renovation of the upstairs too and the kitchen but have no idea where to start.

TIA

My next door neighbour is a freelance project manager who deals with all planning permissions, liaises with architects, builders etc and so has lots of contacts. He's a decent and trustworthy guy, has never done any work for us though. If you are interested PM me your email address and I'll pass it on (or I can send you his details if you prefer).

That sounds great except my income is not much at the moment so I was planning to project manage myself - we can't afford to move and we're bursting out of our tiny cottage.

We have enough saved for building work but that's about it. I need to know if it would be possible to do a basement or would our house fall down!

Hmm. Well he is doing some work for some friends of ours, and I know he gives a free inital consultation and will get a builder to come and give you a ballpark quote. Pretty sure there is no obligation at this stage.
He then does 3 different service levels from minimal to full management with his fees a % of build costs. I think his top level is about 8%, not sure what bottom level is. I'll pm you his contact details and then you can contact him if you like.

Thank you that's very kind. I don't want to waste his time but if I explain what we're looking for them he can decide if it's worth it.

I'm a freelancer myself, so I understand time is money!!

Hi Katie, have sent you a PM. He told me friend he can save them money on materials/managing builders costs that justify his fee, but of course totally up to you!

Thank you :)

Hi Katie,

There's an Architectural Design company who I'd be delighted to recommend for you.
Stephen Green is the co-owner and is expert in listed buildings and planning permissions. I'm constantly impressed by this company and always excited to see their work. You can get contact numbers from the website below.
Good luck!
