I am thinking about moving to Oakington, do any Mumsnetters live there already or know what it is like? Is it a good place to bring up children?

its OK. not the prettiest village but close to town and the Road links (A14). Big Tesco is 5 mins away.

I don't live there but my in laws are close to there.
Why have you chosen oakington?

There are other villages that may suit you better if you have small kids and need some community.

Also Northstowe will be very close by, when its eventually built. Not sure if that's a good things or bad thing really

Girton next door is great (imho) and very family friendly, plus easier cycling to Cambridge.

Thanks for replies. We have seen a house on the market in Oakington and the villages seems to match our criteria of smallish community, small church school and plenty of green space.

Are there similar villages in this area that you would recommend?

Willingham has a good community feel. Nice school/ nursery. My in laws live there and im not far from there. I love my village but its on the other side of the a14.

Another vote for Girton! Bike into town in 15 mins, and we have two pubs as well as good primary, green spaces and lots of friendly, energetic young families.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 27/03/2012 22:35

definately google northstowe that has just been given the go ahead, your idea of a small ish community and green space will not be there in 5 years time. (they have said it is the biggest single development since milton keynes)

come to Bottisham tis great, have the option of Newmarket or Cambridge for shopping, 5 miles into town 5 mins to the A14. A11 gets you to london easily as well. V V easy access to stansted
