moving to the clapham area

Hi,

I have a 6 month old daughter and may be moving to the clapham area. I moved to a new area just before my daughter was born and it was very tricky to find somewhere as we didn't know the area and have ended up somewhere we are not entirely happy. The only requirements are that my husband can get to the tube easily so he can get to work, it's close to a park (my daughter likes the swings) and there are some good baby groups where I can meet some other mums/make friends. Any advise on which areas/streets are nice, family friendly and others which are to be avoided would be great and help our search a lot.

:)

Hi Jenwill

I am new to Clapham as well. We have been here for almost 2 months now, and I have fallen in love with our area. We live off of Northcote between the commons. The local schools are great and my husband has found a neat way into the city for work from Clapham Junction: Waterloo train from the junction, and waterloo and city line to Bank from there. The park access is great and there are all sorts of mums with small children everywhere. Not sure about other areas but hopefully, that is a good place to start.

As Perpetually says, look at the streets around Northcote Road. Some are close to Clapham South tube, some close to Clapham Junction (train not tube), however some roads are not very close to either.

Also look at the streets around Abbeville Road - some are close to Clapham South tube some are close to Clapham Common tube.

If you are willing to look at Balham instead, look at the streets off Chestnut Grove. Close to Balham tube.

Be aware that it is a nightmare trying to get on the tube at rush hour. Clapham Common station is even worse than Clapham South but they are both bad. Balham tube is a bit better.

All these areas are very much "nappy valley" areas, lots of families, coffee shops and baby groups. As regards parks, all are near either Wandsworth Common or Clapham Common.
