West Middlesex hospital - what on earth is going on?

Apparently West Mid are not taking bookings for women in Richmond because it is "out of area". It is 1.6 miles away. They may allow you to book if you insist but if you want a home birth it's Kingston only. What happened to choice?

Oh, and does anyone even reply to email or answer the phone there? They are making Kingston look super efficient...

Anyone able to give some insight into what's happening? When I had DS they were actively trying to get women from Richmond to go to West Mid. Now they don't want them?? Confused

If you do have to go to Kingston, we had a fantastic experience there, so be reassure. A little even Hmm

If I could have got Into either (live in Twickenham) I would have been pleased - and asked for referral at 7 weeks Hmm

Not sure, Richmond is Surrey/Richmond Council though and West Mid comes under Middlesex/Hounslow Council. Sure you know that though, I have no idea how the system actually works Confused
I was there 2 years ago and they were really struggling, I waited 2 hours every time I had an appointment.

Gigondas which hospital did you get?

Gigondas · 05/03/2012 21:14

This was a while ago(so issue isn't new) - ended up with choice of whatever the one in Staines is or Chelsea and westminster (which got but had to beg to be allowed to refer to). Sadly pregnancy ended badly at 22 weeks - not necessarily anything to do with complete absence of any antenatal care (paid for private in end).

Sorry not thread high jack but the issues on west mid trying to manage referrals not new .

Sorry for your loss Gigondas Sad

I had the worst care at west mid, had to be transferred, and our daughter died at birth. Care was appalling and I would never ever attend their maternity unit again. I don't know how Kingston is.

You should have the choice. I only registered at 28 weeks in richmond and said i was i different. So im in kingston. But i was offered a choice for west middx by the midwife
