Hello, I am looking for a good child speech therapist in Richmond/Barnes area. May daughter is 3 and had some nerve damage in her mouth when she was born. She can speak reasonably well, but I have been advised to try to and get her assessed. Many thanks!

Hi

I am looking for a local speech therapist too and am hoping for a recommendation - have you tried the ASLTIP website? You can put in your postcode and search for a therapist in your area. Can I just ask - has your daughter been seen at Great Ormond Street Hospital? My daughter (aged 5) was a late talker with some problems with her palate - we asked our GP to refer us to Great Ormond Street and they are fantastic there. They review her about every 6 months.

Hello - no direct experience myself but I do remember this thread from last year. One therapist in particular has been recommended twice.

I can recommend Catherine Pitman. She may not be suitable for your particular child's condition but she can probably recommend someone else. She was very good with my son - she didn't bat an eyelid the time he insisted on doing the session naked Shock and is fully qualified.

PM me if you want her details. I have email and phone for her. DS hasn't seen her since Jan when she signed him off until March - I was very impressed that she did this rather than keep coming each week when the clinical need was not as strong.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! We have actually seen a private speech therapist in East Sheen and she seems pretty good. I am also going to back to my GP to see if I can get some support from the NHS too. They told me at her 2.5 check that she needed to see someone and that they were referring her to an NHS therapist. But when I followed up 6 months later they said they had no record of it :-( . Fingers crossed we can get a therapist covered as it is quite expensive!
