Bristol makes me happy

OK, so I have only been here a month but I am feeling so warm and fuzzy about the move. And even in these baltic conditions!

People are SO friendly and this in turn is beating my hostile London unfriendliness out of me. I am smiling more which in turn is just making me feel happier.

Yes, you still encounter some of the same mummy cliquiness that you do in other places. But I think that this is far-outweighed by lovely people that are open to chatting and being kind.

Anyone that is contemplating a move, do it. I am SO pleased that we did.

Thank you Bristol.

You're welcome Grin

I was shocked by the friendliness of Bristolians too. We moved from a North German city where people push and shove on the underground, where I didn't even get to know the neighbours despite living there for several years and where people don't smile! It was so nice to say hello to strangers in the street and make small talk or just smile without being thought of as a freak. I feel really settled here despite having no family here and hope we are here for many years to come!

You do know that those strangers you're saying hello to in the street think you're barking, don't you? They're just being polite Wink Grin

We moved from london 7 years ago - I lost my agressive rude hurried Londonways!!! within the first year. You HAVE to, to survive....
I remember queuing in my local Post office and wondering why it was taking so long? Finally getting to the desk the smiley lady says "oooh hello my lovelay, ows you today? Sorry about the wait my love but its bin ectic er this morning. Whats your little uns name shes gorrrrrgeous? etcetcetcetc........" You just have to take deep breaths and enjoy the friendliness. If this had been back in my bit of North London she would have been shot.....
Glad you like it here! Me too

I moved here 7 years ago, but from Torquay in Devon. I was so scared of moving to a city, but after the first year of getting used to the laid back pace and total culture pot that is Bristol, i cant see myself going back. Both my kids were born here, and i was married here. Bristol is lovely - glad your loving it!

I moved to Bristol 8 years ago and love it. Also agree that it is generally a friendly place - but don't you think some bristolians have an amazing capacity to moan?! Read the Evening Post online and the comments for some classic examples!
