Birthday venues in Edinburgh for 40th

I'm trying to book somewhere for a 40th. Ideally wanted the Minto Hotel, but it's booked. Can anyone recommend somewhere else? We have an issue in the fact the DP wants to provide his own music on a laptop or memory stick, and a lot of places insist on their own resident DJ. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have you tried the power league football places? They normally allow free hire of the function suites and own disco etc.

igggi · 31/01/2012 14:40

I was at a wedding in the Malmaison and the disco came from an ipod.

Great suggestions and places I haven't tried yet. Thanks very much.

I was at a 50th recently at The Merlin in Morningside Road. Music was from their son's laptop. The function suite is supposed to be renovated soon.

The Corn Exchange?

Orocco Pier at South Queensferry ? Maybe too far but lovely

Sleepingonthebus · 01/02/2012 22:44

The Power League have availability, but the other half (whose birthday it is) thinks it might be too far out of the way. I think South Queensferry would be the same.

The Corn Exchange never bothered to get back to me, and I forgot about the Merlin. Thanks again.

Upstairs at the Car Wash on The Mound. Depends on numbers I guess.

Also St Stephens Church Hall in Stockbridge, great venue. Bring your own booze scenario however so not sure how that would work for you.

Groovee · 03/02/2012 15:09

Do you know anyone who could help you use a local bowling or rugby club?

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 04/02/2012 13:53

Upstairs at the Golf Tavern in Bruntsfield maybe

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 04/02/2012 13:54

And I was also going to say upstairs at the Merlin!

Sleepingonthebus · 04/02/2012 21:52

Car Wash is too small, don't fancy the BYOB option, and the Merlin can't do it. I've exhausted my supply of friends with bowling or rugby connections, and starting to get slightly panicky now.

Cheers, and I'm off to try the Golf Tavern.

The Grange cricket club? A colleague had hers there.

cherrybug · 23/02/2012 14:27

The Rowentree is an amazing venue and you can plug laptop or ipod into their PA. Its the smaller venue to the Caves. See website here.

Its not particularly cheap though but you'd be hard pressed to find a more atmospheric venue.

cherrybug · 23/02/2012 14:33

Also the Granary in leith have an upstairs function room for hire.

ameliameerkat · 12/03/2012 19:15

Probably a bit late, but I was at a party at the Banshee Labyrinth which was very atmospheric and we played out own music at it.

FizzyLaces · 12/03/2012 19:21

Amelia is that Nichol Edwards? I didn't know it had changed...
