Can anyone help a clueless first timer feel more knowledgeable by sharing their experiences of ante natal care at this hospital? I have my first appointment in a few days and have no idea what to expect. Thanks.

Hello Winniepooh23 I'm also a bit of a clueless first timer so would also be interested to hear about other's experiences about the scan and any other tests that take place. I'm impatiantly waiting on my appointment to arrive for the Victoria Infirmary. I'm almost 10 wks pg so hoping it will come next week. How far in advance did you receive your appointment? My doctor told me my appointment will be when I am over 12 wks pg - I'm hoping not too much over it!! Good luck for your appointment x

Hi, they send out the app details really close to the time, I waited patiently (!) for weeks and eventually phoned them to find out. Got appointment when I was 12 plus 5 but I have heard this can vary, depends how busy they are. Only had 12 week app and antenatal classes at the Vic, depending where you live the 20 week scan and any other appointments will likely be at the Southern, you would also have your baby there. General midwife appointments I was able to get at my local health centre but am not sure if this is the same for everyone.

Generally all the care I received was great, as with anything I found some midwives to be better than others but I can't complain about any of my care ( ended up with a c section before Xmas with my first). They do all see to be very busy, I would always recommend taking a book and a drink/snack to any appointment as you can end up waiting a long time.

Hope this is helpful. :)

Hi sunny5. I've had my first appointment and it turns out I'm a little further along than I thought at 14 weeks. Had a scan and then saw midwife. It was very straightforward and everyone seems very nice. I'm still pretty clueless though!

fifegirl is so right about the waiting. The letter said it make take 2 to 2 and a half hours. Add an hour and that was more like it. Thanks all for the advice

Thanks for your reply fifegirl. It's reassuring to know I haven't been forgotten about. Great advice about the books and snacks too - I won't forget that! Glad everything went well winniepooh23. Really exciting you're further along than you thought. I'm sure everyone starts off being clueless... that's what I keep telling myself :)
