Weekend activity ideas for a 2 and a half year old

Hello all,

My 2 year old daughter and I recently moved to Brighton&Hove and we don't really know anyone yet.

At weekends, when we are basically alone 24/7 and it gets a bit much (as I am sure you can imagine!).

So, I am looking for ideas of playgroups, toddler friendly entertainment, meeting places etc. that are open at the weekend so we can get out and about.

We live on the Brighton/Hove border so anywhere central or easily reachable with public transport as I don't drive.

Any suggestions? So far I have only discovered the swimming pool (not really my think) and the library.

Where do you go with your toddler at the weekend - especially in the winter months??

I was in Hove briefly on my way to Eastbourne. Not really long enough to get to know the place, but I fancy the look of the Hove Museum.

Admittedly their web page doesn't look particularly inspiring! But I'm on the mailing list for their program for children's events and they do some good stuff for little ones - e.g. picture and story times

Also why not come along to one of the Brighton meet-ups? We meet for boozy lunch every so often, it's really nice, very relaxed, lovely people. Watch the meet-ups area for the next one (or start a thread if you like of course )

Hove Museum is great, there's a children's area full of books or activities related to current exhibition (could still be robots, which was ace) and a toy gallery, very good for wet weekends tho note it doesn't open til 2 on a Sunday. Also Btn Museum, and the Booth Museum (known as the animal museum in our house).

We go to parks a lot of the time, there are about 10 in the city, if you have a car it's v easy, but also by bus, we vary between the less well known like Easthill in Portslade and the big like Queens Park. Also Stanmer Park, not a playground but woods good for exploring.

Cafe Bar Italia on George St in Hove has a toddler's corner of toys and books upstairs. The Book Nook shop on First Avenue (?not sure) another nice place to have a cuppa and a snoop. If she's in the right mood, my 2.5yr old DD likes looking in the windows of the funky shops in the North Laine.

westows in school road hove is good for indoor play in winter and has its own section for under 3's. There is also a cafe/food area.
