We've recently moved to Glasgow and my daughter who's 13 is finding it difficult to make local friends , She has friends at school but they live quite a bit away. Does anyone know of any friendly youth clubs in the west end? Or indeed anything that a teenage girl would feel comfortable going along to. She has activities outside school but again these are not local. Any suggestions would be great. She's in senior2.

Welcome to Glasgow!

Is she interested in playing any sports? Is she musical? Interested in art? Computer games? Fashion?

There's lots of stuff happening in the west end if you give us a few hints we'll try and give you some insider knowledge Wink

Also, if she doesn't already have a Young Scot card she should apply for one. You get lots of great discounts at gyms, music venues and days out

Thanks for your reply.
She has just started guitar lessons, plays a bit of violin and we are trying to join a hockey club but the only one that I think suitable is in the south side. She loves fashion and art but does not enjoy drama. She rides but again that is out of town. Just would be nice to have other girls popping in or her to walk to visit friends etc

A 12 year old from church was in the same kind of situation. I got her signed up for Guides and she is really enjoying it.

If she enjoys music, what about a choir? Soem of the other kids go to a choir in town on a Saturday morning, but they all live in the WE.

I think she would enjoy guides as she was in the Brownies. Can you suggest where?

I know there's one in Hyndland, though the one I referred to above is in Knightswood. I just filled in the contact form and they got back to me with a choice of two different units near where the girl lived. Here's the link

I'm in the same predicament here with my DD aged 12 (first year secondary). We moved to Dowanhill in August & although DD is enjoying school her classmates are pretty far spread out, no one lives nearby & she's a bit lonely in the evenings & weekend.

I suggested Guides to her but, she doesn't seem keen, not "cool" enough, apparently!

Is the southside hockey club clydesdale? There's a long waiting list there so if she's interested I'd get her name down. They do great holiday camps too

Tried Guides - they didn't get back to me! Have joined Clydesdale hockey club - 3 weeks in and going ok.

Zondra I'm also in Dowanhill and my DD's classmates are also all over.

Not been on for a while but, wanted to this! :)
Anyone, got anymore recommendations?

My DD & DS are still pretty much stuck indoors after they are home from school. It's frustrating to see & I feel so bad for them.

Newweegie- my kids are at Hyndland secondary but, it seems that the vast majority of kids that attend are placement requests from Scotstoun, Knightswood, Yoker, etc. They know of no kids that live near us?!
It's really isolating for them not to have a friend that lives a couple of streets away to hang out with. :(

Hi Can i recomend Broomhill Sports Club. A huge netball section with a 100 plus girls. Great fun for all levels of ability where girls can rearly flourish
