Avoiding estate agents?

Hi all,

My husband and I are moving to Tunbridge Wells within the next few months (the sooner the better, I think!) and I'm wondering if anyone has some advice about where to look for private-let flats? Although we can go the estate agent route if we need to I've always had such fantastic luck with private lets in terms of price, quality and honesty (!) that I'd love to do the same with this move, but I'm having trouble finding the best places to look. Gumtree etc doesn't have much.

We found our current flat in East Dulwich via a local forum - is there something similar with an estate section?

We're an early-thirties couple, both professionals, no children but hoping that changes in the next year, and perfect tenants - we love making small improvements rather than having to call landlords in or make them fork out for building/facilities help, have loads of positive references, and generally make the places we live 'home' and treat them well.

We're hoping for a 2-3 bedroom (or at a pinch, a 1 bedroom with another office/study area as I work from home) relatively close to the station, in the 750-950 range for the moment.

Best wishes and thanks for any tips! Really looking forward to moving, we're completely in love with the area and spent most of our summer camping at and around Bewl Water and elsewhere. Can't wait to get out of London, it's been too long.

Cait

Presumably you've tried the local paper - they usually have private lets at the back?

This sounds daft, but what would you consider the local paper? The internet is failing me here! :) The Courier?

Yes, the Courier - and the ads will be on thisiskent.co.uk
