I'm hoping to start out as a violin teacher, but it's a little bit of a "cart before the horse" profession as the type of qualification I am going for you have to have pupils before you can qualify!
I am in my thirties. I have an education degree (primary teaching) and play viola to diploma standard and played violin for the Army. I also have some modules from a music degree, which I had to leave due to family commitments. I have many of the old Enhanced Disclosure certificates (police checks). I have attended teaching courses with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and the European String Teachers' Association, now it's time to put some of those things into action.
I am looking for a few pupils who will be sensitive to the fact that I am a student, and in exchange for that I will be prepared to offer lessons free of charge, minimally until July 2012. Students/parents of students must be prepared for occasional videos of lessons to be made, which will be sent to the examining board but otherwise full confidentiality will be observed, I will not share them with anyone else. They are to assess me, not the student.
Although I will teach free of charge, there will inevitably be some expenses as you/your child will need an instrument, which for children may include some changes of instrument as they grow through the sizes. You will also need sundries such as strings, shoulder rest, rosin and various sheet music. If examinations are required then special music may be required as well as exam entry fees and the cost of a piano accompanist. I am open to preparing for examinations with any board provided that the syllabus requirements for the board are completely clear.
I will consider teaching at your house if you have level access I am disabled, I cannot under any circumstances teach in an upstairs location. If you have siblings I will teach both together if they are at the same point in their progress.
I am looking ideally for complete beginners, but will consider up to about grade 4 at this stage. Drop me a line letting me know your background, if you want to take lessons yourself as an adult, if you have any previous experience, maybe play another instrument, can/can't already read music, own a violin already but don't know if it's in playable condition, if you would want me to come to you, what sort of time of day/evening you would ideally like and we will see what we can work out.
(Hopefully this doesn't count as advertising as I'm not looking for any money, I'm looking to offer someone a favour in exchange for another favour as I need pupils.)
