Westbury on Trym Area?

Hi, I am moving back to Bristol after 20 years away, with my 2.5yr old boy and a baby on the way. I'm interested in meeting up with other mums in the Westbury on Trym area (or nearby) for general socialising or playdates.

Also, can anyone make any suggestions as to any free/cheap activities, groups or places to visit with a 2.5 yr old?

And also I will need to buy some baby items (clothes, moses basket, toys etc), can you tell me which shops have the best prices?

Thanks in advance!

Lia

Hi there!
There are lots of groups in the area; my boys have done lots of things from Jo Jingles, Wiggles and Giggles to Gymtastic (though that is in Stoke Gifford.) I know of several mums that have done Jack in a box Gym in Henleaze and have enjoyed it. There is a toddler group on Reedley Road at the Baptist church on a thursday morning. It does have a waiting list but I do think they give a bit more preference to those moving into Bristol that are new. It is only £1.50 and very lovely. I have a 5 year old and 2 1/2 year old boy so if you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask. I also moved in 2008, so know that it can be daunting!
As for baby things, not sure of where to get things cheap- Mothercare and Toys R US are the obvious places to look but if you aren't fussed by second hand things, there are some second hand baby shops. Clothes wise, I have always liked H and M for boys...they seem to be one of the only shops with a decent collection for boys and I like GAP as well, especially in the sales!

Wow, great suggestions, thank you so much! I'll give you a shout if there's anything else I need!

Imps playgroup is Wed or Thur at the Community Church on Eastfield Rd - also £1.50 per week and also a waiting list but very friendly and lots to do. I have 4.5 yr old, 3 yr old and another due in 4 weeks.

There is a titchhikers guide which has lots of suggestions too. The local libraries (WOT & Henleaze) do a storytime and the kids like the city museum which is free if you don't mind stuffed animals

Hi! Welcome to the area, I know the waiting list for imps is pretty long, there is a small friendly group at the baptist church next to the car park in WOT village on a Tuesday pm also cairns church in westbury park has a soft play cafe very popular. There is a quality second hand shop in redland selling nursery & kids stuff at a good price, called replay on chandos road.

Also, a shop on North View which has loads of secondhand kids clothes and equipment - Roundabout, I think.

There is a bit of movement on the IMPS waiting list if you are moving in from outside the borough - worth calling and asking.

Welcome (back) to the area!
