Help Please -- Moving to Letchworth / Hitchin with a 16 month old Toddler

Hi Everyone,

I wondered if you could offer any advice on activities for Toddlers in and around Letchworth (also very happy to drive to Hitchin). DH, DD and I are moving to Letchworth from London (in the next week). I am finding the whole idea very scary as we don't know anyone in the area (Eeeek!) - apart from DH's parents who are in a village near Hitchin. Anyway, we are staying in their flat in Letchworth until we find something more suitable.

Our DD is 16 months and I would love to find some SAHM's to meet up with in Letchworth or Hitchin areas?? Anyone keen?? Also does anyone know of Toddler groups we could join - she is really outgoing and has been a bit starved of company in London - since our original group of Mum's all went back to work. :-(

Can't really help with the groups as we moved here a week before I went back to work, but can highly recommend the mum & toddler swimming at hitchin pool. A few of us are meeting on Weds morning [2 of us are also fellow moved out-from-londoners] probably a bit soon for you but maybe next time? [see the meet up request thread]

Hitchin and Letchworth [and Baldock] are really nice so don't be scared. Hitchin is nicer and has more to do. And the train is very fast into kings cross so you're not far from your friends!

Hi, I live in Htchin, SAHM to an 8 month old little girl. I go to quite a lot of groups in Hitchin and Letchworth. I go Tilehouse Toddlers, Hitchin on Tuesday Morning, hoping to start toddler plus at st pauls church, letchworth on wednesday mornngs, Toddler group at st micheals community centre on thursday afternoons, and baby swim lessons friday mornings and purwell community centre toddlers frday afternoon!

wow never realised i go to that many ahah!! i also pop in to some others when i am around. there are loads of groups in hitchin and letchworth. if you contact surestart they will give you a full list :)

I am also happy to meet up any time, although i dont drive, i am often travelling to letchworth via buses xx

Hello! I live in Letchworth and have a 15-month-old son. I'm back at work now sadly (though part-time) and believe there are quite a lot of groups around, there were certainly tons when my son was younger and I was on Mat leave.

There is an active group on Netmums for Letchworth - Bouncing Bums - they have a facebook group too. A few of my Letchworth mum friends with kids the same age are SAHMs so don't worry, you won't be alone.

www.letchworthmums.co.uk is written by a local mum and has info on toddler groups etc too.

We can always do a little meet if you like and if anyone else is interested (I'm off on Fridays).

Hello again - just come over from the thread about nursery schools.

My 2p's worth on groups would be the NCT Open House group at Norton Methodist Church Hall (on North Aveneue). Its Tuesday's 10 - 12am. It's run by mums so is a bit more laid back/unstructured than some, but there is lots of space and good toys and I have gone regularly since my DS (now rising 4) was one of the littlest.

If you do decide to give it a try, let me know and I'll look out for you. I do try to look out for new people anyway, but I don't always have a chance to say hello when I'm trailing DD from room to room.

As others have said, there is loads to do in Letchworth and Hitchin (and to a lesser extent Baldock too) and lots of nice people, so hopefully you'll soon feel at home. But I know moving to a new place where you don't know anyone much is daunting!

just moved to hitchin myself (from n.london) and i dont know anyone (DD is 20 months). Did you go to any toddler groups to recommend? I'm a SAHM so need a whole new social scene to stop me going insane
