Loopy Lorna's in trouble??

peeoffkitty · 16/09/2011 22:18

Anyone else think that Loopy's is cutting on costs just now? Sausages and chicken has changed for the worse, bread is not as good as it was. Doesn't seem to be as many waiting staff anymore either, service is getting really slow.

I noticed that the other branch at the bottom of Morningside Road closed all of a sudden. Also, they're not taking card payments anymore. I hope not as it's the only place I can go and let my DCs run around!

It's interesting that you say they won"t take card payments - I was in the churchill shop a few weeks ago and thought standards had dropped, the cakes were very dry as if they'd been sitting out for too long. When we came to pay we were told the card machine "wasn't working" - this was just before the other branch closed.

Groovee · 17/09/2011 19:26

They've been in the news saying that the morningside shop was too small and needing too much work done to the actual shop. But numerous people have told of poor service at Churchill. They've said they plan to franchise in the future and to contact them on their facebook page.

peeoffkitty · 17/09/2011 22:15

Had a look at their FB page, all seems very strange. One minute they're closed, next minute they might reopen and now they're franchising? Sounds like they need some cash.

in any case, with Loopy Lorna closed, that bit of Morningside Road between Maxwell Street and Millar Crescent is dismal :(

kaumana · 18/09/2011 23:18

I agree with Catherina - Loopys brought a well needed boost to that area, so I'm sad to see it closed.

CatherinaJTV · 20/09/2011 21:06

kaumana - building activity going on in front of the three empty shops between the Zulu Lounge and Santander bank - yeah :)

peeoffkitty · 20/09/2011 21:09

Good to hear! I think Zulu's should take over the corner spot. Their coffee is awesome.

CatherinaJTV · 21/09/2011 08:30

peeoffkitty - I second that!

kaumana · 21/09/2011 15:36

I know! Wander what they are doing? I love Zulu's they'd do a great trade there.

CatherinaJTV · 21/09/2011 19:56

latest gossip, courtesy of teenage friend of my teenage daughter, this is going to become a Sainsbury's. Not sure whether I would be happy with that - those are the folk that have the money to invest in a three houses wide building project in Morningside, but that would certainly not be good news for the smaller shops left and right... we'll see...

peeoffkitty · 22/09/2011 20:34

just what we need, another supermarket!

Hi all,

I thought I would clarify what is happening with Loopy's as there seems to be some confusion! Our credit card machines are now in FULL working order..it took some time to set up as we changed bank accounts.
We are certainly not cutting costs - all our sausages, chicken etc. are being bought from the same suppliers so no change there! Staffing is always difficult to judge as trade is so unpredictable so apologies if the wait time can sometimes be a little longer than expected.
The 'Little Loopy's' branch was closed in order to focus on the more child-friendly Church Hill branch. It has always been a key to the concept to be seriously child-friendly and I would hope that by giving away free baby food, nappies and wipes as well as as having a small toy area and lots of buggy space we our doing the best we can. Any ideas for improvement are, of course, warmly received.
It was a sad decision to close the 'Little Loopy's' branch but in these hard economic times we have decided to focus on our child-friendly Church Hill branch. I have also decided I need to step down from the running of the business due to continuing health problems following my diagnosis of breast cancer.
Loopy's at Church Hill continues to thrive and welcome all! Don't forget Mrs. Mash, our resident story teller who comes in every Wednesday and delights both adults and children with her wonderful tales at 10 am and 11 am.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Best Wishes,
Gaynor AKA Loopy xxx

kaumana · 14/10/2011 15:01

Hi Gaynor,
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and can completely understand taking a step back. I wish you well both in your health and continuing success in Loopy Lornas. ps love your cakes x

CatherinaJTV · 16/10/2011 17:56

Gaynor - I am sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis - good luck!

It looks like Loopy corner will become an Italian restaurant/café - that shouldn't be too bad then... I hope they'll make their own ice cream...

LoopyLornasTeaHouse · 17/10/2011 11:06

Thank you kaumana - much appreciated. x

LoopyLornasTeaHouse · 17/10/2011 11:07

Thank you Catherina. x

LoopyLornasTeaHouse · 17/10/2011 11:12

Ooops - forgot to mention that our all new singing and dancing credit card machines have been playing up all weekend so we're having to stop using them until we can sort out the problem..will let you know when they are back in use! x

hepcat · 22/10/2011 21:56

Just to say that as far as I know, Zulu's is up for sale, and has been for some time!

CatherinaJTV · 23/10/2011 10:24

There is no sign though - the corner Loopy's is going to become an Italian Cafe & Restaurant and the 3 store gap between the Zulu Lounge and Santander will be a Sainsbury Local, and Welch's is closed and will open as a Cook Food (posh frozen food franchise) in November - so things are moving and everything will be a lot busier than they were, which is good, I guess.

kaumana · 23/10/2011 11:02

Hepcat - Noooo, say it's not true. My Ds will be devastated as he lives for their milkshakes!

C - I'm liking the sound of the Italian Cafe/Restaurant but not that keen on having a Sainsburys local hope it doesn't impact the local shops too much. Cook Food sounds interesting but may mean I do less cooking than I do now!

hepcat · 24/10/2011 12:53

Alas, tis true about Zulu's- we know because we looked at buying it but decided not to. It has been on the market for ages right enough. Maybe whoever take it on will carry on with the yummy milkshakes, why spoil a good thing!

kaumana · 24/10/2011 20:16

Hep - sob.. ponders the viability of a milkshake shop...

LoopyLornasTeaHouse · 07/11/2011 19:27

Ooops forgot to say that credit cards are working...have been for a while...SORRY! Also...
Part-time admin assistant URGENTLY required. 10-15 / week would be ideal to fit in school / nursery hours, ideally over 5 mornings / week but there is some flexibility with this. Your role will be to offer admin assistance to the General Manager and Company Founder. Some experience with accounts / book keeping would be an advantage but full training can be given to the right person. You will work at our Church Hill Theatre premises and also in close liaison with the company accountant and pay roll administrator.
Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience.
If you think you have the right experience and / or are quick to learn then we would love to hear from you.
Please email [email protected] with your C.V. for more details.

CatherinaJTV · 07/11/2011 21:35

you have an accountant and a payroll administrator?! Wow.

lollystix · 08/11/2011 13:39

Hi Gaynor - we're regularly in your place as it's great for the kids. I'm a big cake fan (keep having babies so I can continue to eat cake) but I honestly find your cakes just too big and expensive so never really get one. If you were to do the tray bakes at half the size for slightly less I'd probably always get one. Could you do large and small versions like the cupcakes?

Also the boys always get a cupcake each but could we have plastic plates like the plastic squash cups -we always have to remove them from the plates incase they break them.

Lastly (sorry moan almost over)- the changing toilet near the toys. I appreciate this is an ott request but as you've made the toilet so child friendly mine usually like to spend most of their time in there creating water mess with the basin. This means I spend most of my time trying to stop them getting in. If the door handle were a bit higher - they couldn't get in. Appreciate this is a bit of an OTT request though - just in case you're ever getting a new door Wink.

The themed cupcakes are always very popular- you excelled yourself with the Halloween ones!
