Recommendations - need some local knowledge

Recently moved and need the low down on assorted bits and pieces that I would know where to go at home but feel at sea here ...

Garage for car service and minor repairs (so far, a brake light) pref in town or on north/east side.

Hairdresser for me - maybe one day I'll manage to get something booked.

Tax accountant.

Something like this - mudpies - I took ds3 and dd to these all last year - we absolutely loved them and would really like something similar in the York area if anyone knows of anything.

Cubs/scouts - I've filled in the forms on the North Yorks website for ds1 and 2 twice now for each and still no joy (other than automatic acknowledgement) - desperately seeking one of each in the Groves/Haxby/Wigginton/Huntington type area.

Hairdresser - I've had a couple of good cuts at Westrow on High Petergate - sort of opposite St Mike's.

Cubs/scouts - I know someone v involved on south side of York. I'll pick her brains next time I see her about the north side.

No mudpies but this is a lovely little wood for a wander round with dcs here and here stuff for older dcs there.

The woodland places look lovely - thank you! Will be checking out the Thursday activity for sure.

I've used Clive Hartley Motors on Darnborough Street (Bishopthorpe Road area) in the past and he's been very good and reasonable. A friend uses Osbaldwick Motors (on Osbaldwick Lane - the clue's in the name!). Neither particularly in N or E York (sorry!) but maybe better than no recommendation at all.

The one near The Green, quite near the motorway. That one's good.

We use Simon March in Elvington, on the airfield site, they're really excellent, very trustworthy and decent.

For a hairdresser, try sensu on ouse bridge.

Just wondered if you had had any luck with Scouts - I know various people involved in the south of the city and might be able to find out more through them.
