Anyone think the summer is over for Glasgow?

Just checked the forecast for the week - rain, rain and more rain. Have a horrible feeling the sun has gone now until next April

Yes probably. Although sometimes September is nice.

To be fair, July wasn't all that bad and at least it's been quite warm.

We were meant to be having our roof fixed in August but the contractors have got into financial trouble so won't start the work - and it'll now have to be re-tendered (it's a tenement). So we've got the extra joy of having water pouring in above our bedroom window. Joy, joy, joy... but it all feels so very familiar.

Yup, watching the rain bouncing off the decking and it's actually making me feel really sad.

There are so many places we had planned to go to this summer, but we just haven't had the weather.

On the plus side, managed to sell our tent yesterday, am pleased because it was a total waste of money with the weather we have had.

(((waves to Pacific... I have it on good authority that M is settling in well "and is a nice boy now" )))))

Glad it's not just me. It's pretty depressing. And I also kind of feel that we've already done to death all the wet weather indoor activities over the summer, so winter is going to feel very long.

Suzi - sorry to hear about your window. Bit miserable...

Fingers crossed for a better September.

Aaaaaaaaaagh! I've just lifted the bucket that I thought was (mostly) catching the drips and there are fecking mushrooms underneath it . It's completely sodden.

That's the carpet up the swanee presumably. They better get someone up there to patch it tomorrow because the forecast is for more of the same and I haven't got a boat.

That reminds me - dh needs to go into the eaves to check the buckets that catch the drips from our own leaking roof.

Oh I agree. On balance it's been a decent summer. We had picnic teas in the park after nursery 2 days in a row a couple of weeks ago.

And it has been warm. I'm sure the last 2 summers have been way colder than this. Mushrooms aside, somehow the rain doesn't seem quite so bad when you're at least not having to stick the heating on.

We had drought conditions up until the middle of July last year - I remember that my veg beds were suffering. Then we went on holiday and it rained and was miserable from then on. Potatoes got blight, onions rotted, had to pick the plums between rain falls......

This year we haven't had a good summer but it's not been too crap. There haven't been many barbecue days though (except for the 2nd half of July when we were away.....)

I don't think it's been that bad either - we've certainly had lots of days out - we were at the beach a couple of weeks ago and the DC were paddling in a river earlier this week. And yes, it's definitely been warmer than last summer. It is Glasgow after all - it's never going to be St Tropez, is it?

Ha, none of you ladies have even the slightest beginning of an idea what proper seasons should be like :

Cold winter, can be sunny; if no sun, snow
Warmish spring, some sun, some rain
Hot summer, rain only allowed in the form of sudden, short showers or thunderstorm
Cool autumn, ok lots of rain.

None of this "14 degress at Christmas and 14 degrees in July" nonsense.
Not that I am bitter or anything... .

You'd think after 18 years I'd be getting used to the weather. But, no. I resent it more and more and am under the impression if I moan rant about it A Lot, it will get better

Autumn is my favourite season up here; leaves changing, conkers and acorns, purple skies and still a bit of sunshine of you're lucky.

My ds keeps on asking when we are going to have a "Patio Party". Given that the ones last year and the year before and the year before that were all washouts, I've tired to explain to him that when if we have one, it will be a spur of the moment decision based on settled weather not much chance then

Autumn is my favourite season too. I love crisp, cold days with turquoise skies. We maybe get 2 or three a year though .

It's the rain that keeps this country beautiful unfortunately. And not having to ever worry about your water supply has got to be a plus (no hosepipe bans here).

Tbh, it's the ideal place for a blue skinned red-head like me to live. Every time I've been abroad in the summer slathering sun cream all over myself and trying to stay out of the sun between 11am and 4pm, I've been reminded that I couldn't live like that. Just wasn't born for sunshine really.

Let's put a positive spin on things chaps.

I love the autumn too. We were up in the Trossachs the other day picking wild blaeberries and DS2 was eating his own weight in wild raspberries too. A few more weeks till the brambles are ready though.

Ooh blaeberries! I really want to go down to Portavadie for a day trip to pick blaeberries and paddle, but now that my gran doesn't live in that part of the world it's a wee bit too far for a day trip.

Hmmm. Tempted though. If I could be guaranteed a dry couple of days I'd take a tent.
