Views on Lister Hospital please!

Hi. I'm due my 2nd baby in Jan 2012 and due to the QEII closing my options are home birth or Lister. I had thought about home birth but i'm worried that if baby needed treatment urgently then we may not make it to Lister quick enough so i might aswell go there to have it. I'm just looking fro opinions really, are the midwife team nice, did you have any problems with delivery or lack of care etc. I'm looking for good and bad views so don't hold back!!

Hi. I wondered if you heard much more to help you make your decision? I'm expecting my first in early March 2012 and live in WGC so QE2 is no longer an option but a few people have told me recently that Lister have been closed to new patients a few times due to being full. That scares me quite a lot! I had thought about home birth but have been slightly put off by a few people talking about 'what if.....' scenarios but I'm just hoping the Lister can cope with the number of patients. Don't want to get turned away and sent to Watford or somewhere!!

Hi - I work for the Trust which runs the Lister and QEII hospitals (and I'm a mum too). I thought you might find this information useful... I've checked with my colleagues in Maternity, and they've confirmed that the maternity service across the Trust was closed only once (for just a few hours) in over 20 years. Very occasionally, when maternity was split across two sites (QEII and Lister), we had to ask women to go to one site or the other. But since all maternity services were brought together at the Lister site, we haven't come close to needing to close. If you'd like to book to come and have a look around, please have a chat with your community midwife who can help you arrange it.
