Older Mums in Hove/Brighton?

JugglingMama · 19/07/2011 21:19

Hello! We have just moved to Brighton recently - well Hove to be specific..I have a lovely just turned- 3 year old son, and am 33 wks pgt with our second. Would love to meet slightly older mamas if any around/attending local groups? Im 41, Irish, well travelled and have lots of interests but feel slightly ancient at some of the things I go to..just joined an NCT antenatal class to meeet some people, and while all lovely, they are nearly all trendy young things! Any suggestions?? (ps. not that Im past it or anything, just probably have more in common with late 30's+ rather than mid twenties mamas..) We can whinge about how knackered we are maybe?!

Hi JugglingMama,

Just wanted to say that I had my first at 45.5 years old! It is fantastic being an older mum and keeps you young (and knackered!).
I will be moving to Lewes (fingers crossed) at the end of August and know no-one in East Sussex so you are not alone!

JugglingMama · 02/08/2011 21:54

Sorry Mabs, I was on holiday all last week in Cornwall..just tuning back in now. Pity to miss your meeting. Are you in a group of some sort?! Good on you SkodaMum, and best of luck in Lewes, its supposed to be v nice there...

Hi Juggling..I'm 39 and have two elder children and a nine month old- live in Hove
Fancy coffee sometime?

Callie71 · 09/08/2011 10:44

Hi I'm 39, and first time Mum to a boy 3 months old now. Would love to meet some more Mums near my age :o) for Coffee. I live in Shoreham By Sea, on the Beach. I'm also newish to the area, only moved here last April, and was not in work long enough to build up a new network of friends, also they were all a lot older. Be nice to meet up with some new Mums and not feel so isolated. Def think it's great being an older Mum though x

JackyJax · 10/08/2011 04:01

Hello, We're considering moving to Lewes from Australia (we're English) and I too am an older mum age 42 with a 5 and nearly 4 year old. I'd love to meet up with other mothers in the area.

JugglingMama · 15/08/2011 19:03

Sorry everyone, our laptop died a death..nice to hear from a few others. Would people be up for meeting later this week (Fri?) in Hove or maybe Monday/some other afternoon of next week? Im 3 weeks away from due date, so plans could change at any moment, but a coffee and a meet up would be nice!
Cafe Italia on Georges St. is child friendly but a little skanky due to over-use. Upstairs room has a toy corner etc..or if its fine then maybe the seafront..open to suggestions for places/dates

skodamum · 31/08/2011 20:46

Hi JackyJax

I am about two weeks away from moving to Lewes if you would like to meet for a coffee. If you would like to stay in touch perhaps you could leave me a message on the "Lewes" local site and meet up when I arrive. Good luck to you. Skodamum

Hi All,

Just new to the scene of being a forty something mum of a 17 month old toddler. I live in the PP area and as the thread says before me I am looking for recommendations of good play groups. (just as a warning to others the Dorothy Stringer drop in session on a Friday has been cancelled). Also in need of daytime adult chat as can feel the brain cells retreating! Looking forward to hearing from you. ARG40

Jolicam · 24/09/2011 18:29

Hi ARG40 and others,

I'm not far off the big 'life begins' milestone and have a 14 mth old. I live close to PP and happy to meet up for a coffee and a chin wag during daylight hours. For local playgroups see betterdaysout website.

Cheers,
J

Hi JugglingMama

I'm 41 with a 6 year old, a 2.5 year old and a 5 week old baby and always up for a whinge about how knackered I am! So when you've had your baby and you're up for it would be great to meet for a coffee x

privateprancer · 29/09/2011 17:50

I'm also 40 and permanently knackered! Live near PP and would be up for a coffee (have a 4.5 year old and a 2 year old)

Jeb28 · 03/10/2011 21:15

Hi privateprancer I live by PP too. I'm up for meeting in one of the parks with our 2 year olds if you fancy it sometime soon.

ARG40 · 04/10/2011 12:46

Hi Everyone, Why don't we suggest a few days Tuesdays any good? Preston Park cafe ? 2pm or another day? a better venue? Look forward to hearing from you all soon.

privateprancer · 04/10/2011 18:09

I'd be up for that although my 2 year old is normally asleep around about that time. Any chance of a morning meet? Tuesdays good for me in general though

Jeb28 · 05/10/2011 12:43

I'm up for that too - Tuesday mornings are usually busy but can do some weeks. Otherwise Thursdays (there is good toddler group called Dragonflies at Knoyle Hall if you fancied meeting there instead?) or Friday mornings good for me

privateprancer · 06/10/2011 12:32

Friday mornings are good for me too although I can't do next week. Thursday mornings are difficult for me. (I can also normally do Monday and Wednesday mornings)

Jolicam · 06/10/2011 21:30

Hi all, how about meeting for elevenses at the rotunda cafe on monday (10th)?...

privateprancer · 07/10/2011 12:41

today I have vowed never to go there again.. was there this morning and the miserable owner came up to us and told my friend to stop her 1 year old making a noise "because people were having breakfast"!!! Outrageous. Have heard about him not being fond of children before but this is the first time I've experienced it first hand. So feel free but count me out Wink. The other (smaller) cafe's always really nice to the kids although the caf's nothing special. Anyway, I could do Monday but will have to leave at 11.30 to pick up my eldest

ARG40 · 10/10/2011 21:51

Hi lets try and make a date for next Monday at 10 ish? at the small cafe in Preston Park (as obviously the Rotunda isn't a good option), hopefully it will dry and we could sit outside. Hope some of you can make this - if not a great time we can do it another time.

privateprancer · 12/10/2011 07:58

that suits me ARG

Jeb28 · 12/10/2011 22:12

I can't make next MOnday but am generally free on Mondays so let me know if you agree to meet up again another week
