Bearsden - airport flight path?

Hi, I am looking to move from England up to Bearsden, and had found a property that we liked near the town centre, a few minutes walk from Bearsden primary (ideal for me to take the kids to school as I don't currently drive). However, the home report mentions that it is in the flight path from Glasgow Airport, and we noticed some comments online about noise from airplanes affecting Bearsden residents.

Can anyone from Bearsden comment on this? Is it bad enough that it could cause problems with sleep? The property is double glazed but are the planes loud enough that you would still hear them? My kids are light sleepers, I dread having to try and get them back to sleep every hour if the planes are waking them throughout the night! We never noticed planes when we viewed the house but we weren't there for too long, and unfortunately are now back home in England so can't return to check how loud it gets..

Grew up in Bearsden and it never ever affected our sleep. When family would come to visit they would say oh look a plane....oh look another plane and be surprised cos they weren't used to it. Would a car going past outside wake them up? (Trying to work out how light sleepers they are)

My dd is a light sleeper and when we moved here 3 years ago I was worried but they never affected her. You are aware of them but they're not flying in all night and they're not too noisy. The emirates flight is the biggest and noisiest but it comes in at lunchtime. You'll love it here, definitely don't let the planes put you off.

I've lived in Bearsden for 2 years now and I'd never move back into Glasgow now. I love it here! TBH you notice the planes at first but after a couple of weeks they'll just become a background noise. You'll be moving just down the road from me too Grin

It wouldn't be such a popular place to stay if the noise was that bad. If your kids are used to cars passing on the street then they're unlikely to get disturbed at night with the planes. I certainly can't hear them at night and neither can DS.

You're going to love it here and Bearsden Primary is a lovely school Smile

I used to live in Bearsden, close to the airport transponder (or whatever it is called): if the planes didn't go directly over the house, they weren't on course! (The transponder is about half way between where our house was and Bearsden Primary)

You do hear them but you don't notice them - they're not noisy enough to shake the windows or anything like that. As giraffes and "Browncoats" say - it's more like the noise from a car.

My parents' place is in Bardowie (c. 3 miles from Bersden Primary, further away from the airport) and you can see the planes but not hear them. I used to fly to London regularly and loved in when the planes came in on the northern approach and I could look down on the loch and see their house :)

I too went to Bearsden Primary - but that was a loooooong time ago. Blush

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it has made me feel a lot better about moving to Bearsden. We don't live on a busy road at present, but I don't think the kids would get woken by traffic noise, and so the planes probably won't be a problem either. I was imagining shaking windows and the likes, but it sounds like it's nothing like that bad.

Glad to hear about Bearsden Primary too! My eldest DS won't start primary for another year but the primary was one of the attractions!

If you need to know things in area for preschool children/toddlers to do then come back and ask nearer time. Am a Bearsden buff - ask me anything Grin

giraffes- Thank you very much for your kind offer! Once our move becomes more solid I will definitely have to ask some stuff!
