Have you used maternity services at Queen's or King George Hospital?

Are you a new or expectant Redbridge mum?

A number of RedbridgeLINk members have expressed concerns with local maternity services; this also echoes recent stories in the press.

If you have an experience of these services, whether good or bad, then we would like you to take part in a discussion group to look at how maternity facilities in the area are working.

Any concerns raised can then be reported back to the hospitals and the Independent Reconfiguration Panel, which is reviewing the proposals for King George Hospital.

The following are examples of questions to be discussed:

? What measures can be taken to ensure that these incidents do not happen again?
? How are people supported people when things do go wrong?
? Are you aware of the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) and the Independent Complaints procedures?
? Do you know about the role of the Care Quality Commission?
? What affect do you think the closure of the maternity services at King Georges Hospital will have?

If you would like to share your thoughts in a safe and confidential environment, please come along to our meeting on Thursday 26th May, from 10am ? 12pm, at RedbridgeLINk, Forest House, 16-20 Clements Road, Ilford.

Places must be booked in advance. Register your attendance by emailing [email protected] or calling 020 8553 1236.

Refreshments will be provided.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick follow-up from the event previously advertised.

We had an interesting, if shocking, response from women who had given birth at Queen's hospital and a number of key points kept cropping up, including:

  • Poor treatment of women who had given birth to stillborn babies
  • Negative staff attitude, "slow and negligent" responses
  • Poor pain relief

The full report is available here www.redbridgelink.net/index.php?nuc=news&item=138&func=view&id=3

We are also holding another meeting about maternity within Barking, Havering and Redbridge on Wednesday 14 September from 9.30-1.30pm.

Representatives from the Care Quality Commission, which is investigating the complaints raised, and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust, which runs King George and Queen's Hospitals, will be attending.

The meeting is being held at
Ripple Centre,
121-125 Ripple Road
Barking. IG11 7YL

Due to expected demand, places must be booked in advance. To book, please call Elana on 020 8553 1236 or email [email protected]

Please come along - all welcome!
