Pregnancy Scanning

Does anyone know or have recent experience in having an early scan at either St Johns or ERI EPU?

Last pg ended in early m/c and Ive just found myself pregnant again a year later (YAY!)
I really want an early scan for reassurrance, but know that I want doesnt mean I'll get! Does it depend on my Dr? - He has a very laid back attitude... Don't think my stress will cut it! I'm not 100% sure of dates, and think I might have had an implantation bleed, at the time I was certain it was my period, But the pregnancy tests I did at the weekend are very very strong and the conception indicator on the digi suggests Im about a month further on.

Is there any specific criteria where they will scan you? , some other posters on the main site talk about self referral to epus etc. But I don't know how this goes in Lothian.

ANyone with any help/advice? THANKS!! :D

You can self refer to the EPU at the ERI (in fact they prefer if you self refer rather than you GP doing it so they can talk to you first and arrange the best time to scan you). I can't remember the number off the top of my head but you'd be able to get through via the ERI switchboard.

The number for the Pregnancy Support Unit at the RIE is 0131 242 2438 I was classed as a self referral but I wasn't because a Dr called them and they called me. Heyho.

The reason was because I had a sharp pain on the right side (5 weeks) and some bleeding. They checked for ectopic all ok but there was an odd cyst so I had a follow up scan at 8 weeks and all was clear again. They are all so lovely in that unit really put your mind at rest about things.

Thank you so much! Fingers crossed I can get in and see if there is anything actually there..

Good luck, I went there and they were fab, even though I eventually had a miscarriage!

I was scanned there when I had a m/c a few years ago and they were great. Said to call them at around 8 weeks next time I was pregnant and they'd give me an early scan.

I had a reassurance scan there in 2009 after miscarrying the year before. They had just said call us when you get pg again and we can arrange an appointment. They were very nice about it all.

Good luck Smile
