I need to use a laundrette as our washing machine is broken. I have never been to one before and I hate to admit it, but I'm apprehensive. Please can you recommend one that is clean and tidy. I will travel :)

I've used a clean machine on Chesterton High street. It's scruffy but fine. Then again it's the only one I've used so I d

Sorry iPhone fingers. Don't know if all the others are shining white palaces of laundering loveliness. The clean machine is unmanned, no service wash, but someone will usually show you the system.

You'll need £3bn in change. The place for the money is round a corner from the washing machines so you put your stuff in, select a programme on the machine and then crucially remembering what number machine you have, go and put money in hole in wall and hope you remembered it right.

There's one on Mill Road near the co-op - I went there when our machine conked out and it was fine :)

oh and it's not as complex as AuntieBulgaria's experience, you bung your coins directly into the same machine as your laundry!

I bravely went to one in St Ives (not too far from my home) and it was fine. There was a lovely old lady who helped us out. She seemed genuinely surprised when I popped back with some Mr Kiplings!!

I can tick 'using a laundrette' off my list of things to do.

Thanks for your suggestions AB and JJ.
