Choosing a Bristol school

Bristol city council has a survey on it's website for parents to fill in to find out more about why parents choose particular school. It was publicised in the Our city council newsletter but the link was very hard to find so here it is www.bristol-cyps.org.uk/schools/school-choices-survey.html.
Am sure that other MNs will be interested in filling this in so please do so.
It is for all parents, even those who have a few years to wait before their dcs start school!

Just done it. In the notes I said I thought school 'choice' was the wrong word to use - more like allocation. You can 'choose' Redland Green or Cathedral as the best school for your child, but unless you live next door or get a place in the lottery, your 'choice' will be ignored.

Agree it isn't really a "choice" but a preference and there are no guarantees of a place at your "chosen" school. The secondary allocation data for oversubscribed secondary schools is now available on the Council website see the following link: www.bristol-cyps.org.uk/schools/secondary-allocations-2011.html. Hope parents find this useful.

I also expressed reservations that the Cathedral/Colstons Girls lottery allocation is unfair. Although I understand the system, most of my dds friends who took the test weren't awarded places and they thought that they had "failed" the test.

Thanks for posting. I read the Our City paper and never saw this. I feel much better after having a little rant in the comments box. But seriously, they completely messed up having enough primary places in the last couple of years and yet nothing seems to be happening about secondary school places.
