Moving to Norwich

Hi,
due to DH's work, we'll be moving to Norwich by the end of summer. I am a SAHM (but shall explore opportunities at UEA); DD1 is 2.8, and DD2 8 months. We'll be probably renting first, as we need to sell our current house in Herts before buying, and that will give us some time to get to know the city and its surroundings. We'll be looking for a 4+ bedroom house, and are planning to spend £1500 per month in rent, and eventually about £600k to buy. I have read about the golden triangle, but see nothing exciting on estate agents' websites. Also, we need to rent somewhere that will guarantee a place at a good state primary - and also have a good nursery nearby.
Norfolk mums: what do you think? Is it better to stay in the city or move a little further out? DH will be at the hospital, so anywhere within half an hour from it. We have a few months to get organised, and I want to get it right!
Thanks all for any help you might be able to give.

Hi Pinguina,

Golden triangle is popular & has a really nice vibe - close to city, mix of people, independent shops BUT mostly terraces (though some big houses) & quite small gardens. The primaries around there have great reputations. Have you looked at Eaton/Cringleford - south edge of city, nice areas. Not sure of primaries but imagine they'd be good. Further afield, Hethersett&Wymondham are easily with 20mins of the hospital&full of families. Good schools too!
