Primary school for one year

Hi folks, I'm coming from the US to do a one year degree at the University. We'll be living in Uni housing on Blacket Ave. in Newington. The primary school is Preston Street. I've got a 10 year old who'll be here with me entering P7.

I'd like this to be a fab year for her and am looking for a lovely, welcoming school. Any suggestions? Does Preston Street fit the bill? I'm also looking at Sciennes, Royal Mile and Prestonfield. We need to be able to walk to her school and then I'll walk to the Moray House at the Uni.

My 15 year old is coming for just 1/2 of the year. She'll be at the Secondary School, I think? ANy suggestions there as well?

Thanks

I'm really happy with Preston St, it's a small school and is very friendly. Dd loves it there. You're a nice easy walk away from it in Blacket Ave too so it'd be perfect.

Thanks, it's just nice to know what other parents think. There's not that much info on the website so it's a bit hard to see what the pros and cons might be.

Do you feel like the staff keep kids motivated and learning in interesting ways?

I'd say so from my experience, although dd is a fair bit younger than yours. TBH any of the schools you mentioned are good primaries but maybe not necessarily worth applying out of catchment for.

Preston St have a nice system where the older kids get to mentor the new P1s and they are very hot on supportive friendships and encouraging the kids to look out for one another, which I like.

thanks, Royal Mile has been very responsive to my question but I haven't heard anything from Preston STreet. Do you know a good email to reach folks on? I've used the one on their website but am not getting a response.

Thanks,
