Nice hotel break near Glasgow?

Mimile · 04/03/2011 16:34

Has anyone got a recommendation for a good hotel (or equivalent) for a mini-break not too far away from Glasgow (< 2 - 3 hrs drive), suitable with a small child (18months)?
We need a break, and would quite like something which incorporates relaxing activities (spa stuff) / outdoor activities (however, we do not play golf!).

Not quite sure what we'd do with DD in the evenings though.

hope someone can advise!

What sort of budget do you have in mind?

Crieff Hydro is supposed to be good for families but I have never been.

Crieff Hydro is meant to be good - I know someone who regularly takes his family (4 year old and 2 year old) there and they love it - has a kids clubs thing, swimming pool etc. I used to be a member of the leisure club so have experience of the facilities although not actually stayed there.
There are 2 pools - one that children can use - it has a baby pool - and a separate adults only one (for an additional charge) which is lovely and peaceful with jacuzzi and sauna. There is a golf course, tennis courts, riding school etc all on site.

Another thought - the AUchrannie spa resort on Arran is nice - again there is a swimming pool, sports facilities etc. No kids club (at least there wasn't when we were last there 2 years ago) but tehy have a small playroom with foam blocks that wee kids like (need to supervise them yourself though). I like the rooms there as they are a good size and there is a fridge which is useful for stocking with cold drinks, milk etc for kids.
Usually has offers if you stay outwith school holidays as well (sometimes include the ferry cost)

That sounds lovely!
In term of budget, I don't know Blush! we would probably be looking at 1 or 2 nights, not even quite sure what "normal" prices are anymore.

Yes, Auchrannie on Arran. We've not been since ds was born but Arran is a great place to go with kids and the pool at Auchrannie is nice.

They usually have good winter deals.

Crieff hydro has childcare for 3 hours in the day then again at night so you can have dinner in peace

If you can go midweek you will get a better deal. Weekends and school hols are expensive

Portavadie Marina... stunning place to be....

www.portavadiemarina.com/

Loads of interesting walks, you can hire bikes, there's a spa on site and an amazing restaurant, they will organise a fishing trip and you can visit Tarbert and all of the interesting seaside villages around...

Not to mention the abandoned oil workers village.

My favourite place. Hands down
