DD quite fancies going to it for IB but also quite fancies BHASVIC for A'level.I need some info to help her decide.
Has Anyones DC gone to either of these?
Is there a good social scene ? (DDs question)
I want to know what teaching standards are like, is it friendly, do students get a lot of support?
And lastly if you had to do it again would you send your child back?
Thanks

DS1 is at BHASVIC and is enjoying it. Teaching seems good, the students are well supported but communication to us parents sucks but that is the way all these places are I think.

I went to Varndean college. Really liked the tutors, subjects and social aspects but the support was awful although that was a long time ago now.

DD at BHASVIC and loving it. Teaching is very good and we're very pleased. Have heard some not so good stuff about Varndean but can't substantiate it as she hasn't been there. Good thing about BHASVIC is it is a true half way house between school and Uni.

Ds is at Varndean and hates it which has been a real nightmare! All his BHASVIC mates seem very happy

Noddy, is it the teaching he hates? Or the actual place/other students?

He doesn't like the actual place or teh teachers.I have to say they do have a strange attitude to anyone having difficulties and went straight to saying they wanted to kick ds out before they had even tried to find out why he didn't like it! My ds loved school and keeps comparing it plus most of his friends at BHASVIC love it and all of his varndean friends bar a couple are unhappy there. The building is rundown and a bit miserable and there is no common room just a cold faceless canteen. He is more at home than ever as he just goes in for teh bare minimum

Oh thats such a shame, i hope things improve for him.Can he transfer?
DD has decided on BHASVIC and is looking at Steyning for the IB now.
Thanks everyone for the input,it has been very helpful.

Varndean is good!! Really! I know this is out-of-date but my dc went to Varndean and did well after not really liking her secondary school, (v. popular school, excellent OFSTED etc., but too big and the teachers all seemed to like the loud kids which she wasn't). Her confidence bloomed and all her friends liked it too - no problems at all.

riends at BHASVIC also quite happy. I'm not sure they are very different

Would really like to hear experiences at either Varndean College IB course or A levels at BHASVIC. Was impressed by both at open day. But what is the experience of current students and parents!? Previous post related to 2011 so much may have changed.

As someone who frequently deals with university applicants, I’ve seen good candidates from both, but from BHASVIC much more often. They seem to have very good academic extension support and the candidates I’ve seen from there seem to be allowed to be individuals rather than being all pushed into one particular model. Bear in mind my experience is anecdotal though!
