Need a very good carpenter - any recommendations

We need a very good carpenter for quite a large job - probably several weeks work. In north Oxfordshire. Can anyone recommend a decent one. It's for a listed building and we need a staircase, some architectural details and door frames/window casements building in oak.

Thanks :)

You could try S & A Building Services on 01993 810861 - not sure how big the carpentry jobs he's done are (he would give you an honest answer) but has done a lot of varied work for my company and is extremely thorough, careful, and honest. It's Stan and he's based in Woodstock.

If you contact him, please don't mention how you got the recommendation! He might be in postcode pigeon or other local advertisers.

we have a fab builder (Duncan McInnes, based in Oxford) - he wouldn't be your man himself but he might know somewone. The carpenter who worked with him on some things at our place was very nice and did a fantastic, and extremely precise, job - though I don't know if you need someone more specialist for the kind of work you're describing (he was just making fairly plain benches and storage for us).

Ah we need a builder as well Aquavit so thanks for the lead!

Ghosteditor - thanks also for yours - I've heard of him from someone else so I'll give him a call too. :)
