Lost Teddy Bear - help!

Bellebelle · 05/01/2011 18:44

This is a long shot but we've lost DD1's much loved teddy bear, we think it was on Monday 3rd but could have been on Sunday.

He's about 8 inches tall, is brown and well worn. He was bought for £2 from Ikea about 6 years ago.

If you've picked him up or seen him please let me know, we were in town on Sunday (Princes Street area) and then up at Craiglockhart and in the Willowbrae/Piershill area on Monday.

He's just a bear but he's our bear!

Thanks

Fingers crossed that you find him.

I haven't seen your poor bear but I will keep my eyes peeled for you. x

Thanks. Think I might be more devastated by the loss than my daughter is!

Bumping - in the hopes of some good news.

Thanks, still no sign sadly, we've retraced steps and searched everywhere but no luck. Now hoping that he has found his way to another good home where he will be loved.

I've found another on EBay which has been ordered, hoping that when he arrives DD1 can be persuaded that his change in appearance is down to someone having washed him while he's been away.

It's so silly how traumatic it has been loosing a bear!

It's not silly at all - I was in floods of tears when I realised that dh had thrown out my childhood teddy bear in a bagful of stuff from the loft - I made him drive me to the tip, to see if we could get the bag back, but the container had already been taken away, so teddy was gone for good. I cried off and on for days - and I was an adult. Blush

I hope that the new bear from ebay slips into the old teddy's place. I was coming back to suggest asking here if anyone had an IKEA bear, but you had beaten me to it.

I'm sorry to hear about your bear, its amazing how attached we can get to soft toys.

It appears that he is a commonly lost bear, there's a whole Ikea page dedicated to the lost Ikea bears with many tales of woe. Probably down the fact that 1000's were sold 5/6 years ago.

DD1 is getting more upset by the day as it dawns on her that he isn't just hiding somewhere in the house. I must admit to shedding a few tears over the loss too, I am still very attached to my childhood bunny and was keen for her to have a 'special' soft toy too so encouraged her to love him from being a baby, feel very guilty about the whole thing and hate to think of him lying somewhere never to be found.

I'll let you know how teddy#2 goes down.

The new bear arrived on Saturday morning, he is exactly the same albeit a lot fluffier and a bit plumper. DD1 was satisfied that he was her bear after a wash and was delighted.

I have continued to privately grieve for the old bear, imagining him in a landfill or under snow somewhere and feeling incredibly sad about it...until...the original bear was found this evening!

One of our cats had squirreled him away in a tiny gap under our bed even though we had checked there numerous times this week.

So DD1 now has original Teddy and his 'cousin' and is a bit bemused but happy.

I had underestimated how much flaming Toy Story had affected me Wink

Good news that teddy has been found.

DS has a special moose that DH bought for me on a Zoom airline trip to Canada long before DS was born. I emailed their customer relations ( before they went out of business) to get a back up to no avail and then we spotted what we thought was a moose just like the special one, but was rejected by DS as not having soft enough antlers.

There have been several occasions when we think he has been lost and it shocked me how quickly DS moved from being distraught to sizing up new best cuddly toy options.

Always good to have a back up though.

This post really made me smile, I know exactly the teddy you mean. My ds 7 had one from birth and it was very loved and well worn too. unfortunatly I stupidly (had rule not too) let him have out one day and although checked several times somehow two stops before our house we forgot him and left him on the bus.
Ds was heartbroken (still misses him)and even though I phoned LRT mext day Teddy was gone. I to got one on ebay and lucky he took the place. Ds is really sensitive so I told him a little boy or girl had found Teddy and was looking after him.
As for new Teddy he's very well loved.

So glad you found your one.
