Hi there
We are thinking of relocating from SE London to Oxted in the next few months with our 2 and 1/2 year old and 7 month old baby. We really liked Oxted when we have been to visit for the day and schools seem to be v good. Still not sure we know enough about the area to make the big leap! I'm likely to be staying at home with children for next couple of years and am keen to find out what's on for mums and babies(and my whirlwind toddler!)
If you have a few mins to give me any local advice on best schools/stuff to do during day with my youngest/pros and cons of living in oxted (and hurst green), I'd be really grateful. Thanks!

I am about to put a poster up at the local supermarkets to see if there are mums/dads and babies that are keen to meet up in the afternoons. I only have a small apartment near Master Park but I wouldn't mind hosting a first meet up here and see how many mums and babies we get together. We could always rotate houses and as the weather gets warmer (we can live in hope I know!!) we can migrate to Master Park and have picnics!

Hi Billym
The area is lovely. I prefer HUrst Green to Oxted although clearly the latter is great for shops etc as there is a real community feel out in HG. if your partner commutes to london you get a seat more at hg than oxted! there are two fab church infant schools (limpsfield and st peters) which are always oversubscribed and two good other infant schools, one in oxted and one in hg so you'd be sure of getting them into one you were happy with. there are 2 junior schools, one in hg and one in oxted but with people from both places choosing the one in the other locality as both are good (recent ofsted goods for them both) and have slighytl different strengths. there is one great comprehensive, from which a number go on to oxbridge and many other top universities. there are also some private schools around for all ages. there are various toddlers- one on a mon am in tandridge (the most friendly toddler group i reckon but you need a car to get there), another at st mary's church hall in oxted on a tuesday, another in limpsfield on a thursday and st mary's again on a friday. there are a number of fab pre schools too but it depednds which infant school you have in mind as to which is the best one. happy for you to email me if you'd like to know more ! manic monsters is a soft play area just outside hurst green. kids love it! there are music classes and swimming lessons at tandridge swimming pool (v reasonable i think) and rugby tots adn football if ytou have boys and ballet for a girl. so much to think about. we moved here 6 or so yrs ago and v v v pleased we did. we love it and will not be moving anywhere any time soon!
good idea Tman - i dont have a baby any more but am sure you'll find others that do! go along to st mary's toddlers on a fri or a tues and you'll meet more local mums that might want to join you- it is in the community centre just up the road from you.

Hi

I'm setting up an Oxted and Caterham mums group at my pottery studios on Friday mornings from 9.30am. We can only offer tea and toast (£3) at the moment, but will soon be opening a kids/parents arts and crafts venue/cafe...

My sister gave me the idea as she has just had a little girl and thought our studios would be a perfect place for mums to meet.

Would you lovely to see you there.
