Oxford university pay scales

Sorry - I'm gatecrashing from another mumsnet 'local', and with a rather personal question. With current uncertainty about job prospects and contracts, DP is considering looking for a new job. He's seen a university lectureship in Oxford, which would be lovely, although perhaps a bit of a long shot (his feelings, not mine!). Do any of you know anything about how the Oxford payscales work? There's a salary range in the further particulars for the post which is about 15K wide. How would DP work out where he might end up on it? Money isn't everything in the decision, but if we do move then I'll probably end up cutting back my hours a little, and it would be nice to think about the practical implications of it all first. Sorry to be so nosey!
If he does apply, I'll start reading all your comments on schools and nurseries next Wink

I'm not sure how the Lecturer pay scales work but if you go to www.ox.ac.uk/ and put 'pay scales' into the search it should take you to the Admin section which might give you more information. However, it's probably best to just ask the Department he'd be applying to as they are likely to have most of the information and experience. Sorry I can't be more help I left a College five years ago.

[namechanged for this, as I work for the University]

Yes, the pay scale variation is massive, they may be able to give you more indication of the specific grade(s) that this particular job falls into.

Other things to bear in mind are the difference in annual leave, annual pay increases (recession freezes aside) and the final salary pension.

I would suggest that he calls the HR person in charge of the position and ask the question tbh. Perfectly reasonably to see if the move to a job is feasible based on the salary (word it carefully though, obviously)

Is it the one at Wadham?

(ignore the Wadham comment, it's obviously not that one)

Great - thank you very much. We've found the university website, which as Pigeon suggests does given some useful information. I'll suggest that DP calls for a little more background about the grade at which they might appoint (or I could even do it for him if he wants the query to remain anonymous). We hadn't thought about annual leave variations, but the pension issue is well worth remembering, because mine will not be great Grin
Much appreciated. I'll let you know if he gets the job!
